Charter amendment to increase NLA size enacted

BANGKOK: -- The interim charter amendment which paved the way for an additional 30 members to be added to the National Legislative Assembly (NLA) was published in the Royal Gazette yesterday.

 

The amendment was proposed by the Cabinet and the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) more than a week ago after they reasoned that the additional NLA members would help expedite the legal enactment of over 100 bills.

There has been speculation that the 30 spots are for military officers set to retire this month, but senior Cabinet and NCPO members rejected that.

The amendment changed Section 6 of the charter, which previously stated that there would be no more than 250 NLA members.

Time will tell, we shall see in a matter of weeks just who is appointed to these posts.

More politicians equals more snouts in the trough.

Because anyone who has ever worked on a committee knows that adding people always makes things go faster!

Does that mean the extra 30 will not be elected,

but just slotted in,in a jobs for the boys scheme.

30 more politicians on the payroll (most will end being retired military or police)...and you can be guaranteed they will all support the current regime's proposals.
