BarnicaleBob Posted September 4, 2016 Posted September 4, 2016 I have a friend in Germany who wants to send to me some private label wine from his vineyard to me in Thailand as a gift for personal use (not for resale). I realize there may be an import tax to do this and would like to know if anyone has any information on the following: Is the importation of private label wine from a licensed winery in Germany allowed in Thailand? Any idea on how much the import tax would be? Any idea on what the limit he would be allowed to ship to me (he said he would like to give me one case of 12 as a gift)? Any help I can get on answering the above three questions will be appreciated.
MJCM Posted September 4, 2016 Posted September 4, 2016 Maybe this topic should get you started http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/785664-bringing-wine-in-at-bkk-for-personal-use/
chickenslegs Posted September 4, 2016 Posted September 4, 2016 According to this article http://silklegal.com/importing-alcohol-to-thailand you require a licence (even for non-trade) and the taxes and duties will be calculated on whatever value the customs officer decides to apply to the product (i.e.- not the value that your friend or you declare). BTW - I'm jealous of anyone who has a friend who owns a vinyard. I would visit him often.
lostinisaan Posted September 4, 2016 Posted September 4, 2016 There's a time when I was trying to bring some superb wine from friends, finest lower Franconian wine, Bordeaux and white wine, but I finally gave up after I found out that there're too many problems. I could have gotten the wine from a friend for almost nothing, but the Thais would tax your wine and make it impossible for you to pay for. And the other big companies wouldn't want somebody doing business. They don't believe you if you want to drink or sell it. It's very sad, otherwise people could really drink amazing wine for an affordable price. The wine one the photo grew only 10 km away from my hometown, and is one of the tastier ones. It's all about quality these days, not quantity. ( Tears running down...) Please read an older thread: The Bocksbeutel would cost me less than 5 Euro......
