Alibaba Group CEO meets with Prime Minister

 

  

HANGZHOU, 6 September 2016 (NNT) - The CEO of one of China’s largest companies, Jack Yun Ma of Alibaba Group, has taken the opportunity to meet with Thailand’s Prime Minister while he was in Hangzhou, China for the Group of 20 summit (G20). 

Prime Minister Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha yesterday was visited by the chief executive officer of Alibaba Group, one of China’s largest E-commerce corporations, Jack Yun Ma. The two discussed supporting and developing small and medium enterprises in Thailand, with the premier pointing out up to 90 percent of Thailand’s exports are from SMEs while noting that they have been lacking in proper management. He invited the successful CEO to share his experiences and knowledge with Thai businesses as well as to aid in creating an SME network in Thailand, which he said would also benefit foreign investors. 

Ma meanwhile, lauded the Gen Prayuth for prioritizing SMEs, giving his view that current global conditions benefit large corporations while serving as an obstacle to small enterprises. Nonetheless, he indicated he believes new avenues of sale will dominate in the next 30 years. 

He also noted Thailand has many strong supporting factors for business, such as quality human resources, and said that with the application of new technology it could greatly boost its competitiveness. He said his company is looking to use its Alitrip system to boost travel to Thailand by Chinese citizens.

The premier concluded the meeting by urging the CEO to work with Thailand’s OTOP makers with the businessman responding he was interested in the sector.

Alibaba's Jack Yun Ma was quite flattering when he commented on the quality of human resources in Thailand but made no mention of the quantity of quality human resources or the productivity (or lack thereof) of those same resources. 

 

There is now a well worn track that detours Thailand by corporations looking to invest in manufacturing industries in Asia. They now all head for Vietnam, Cambodia and lately Myanmar where the work ethic is higher and productivity greater.

 

Thailand is awash with hubs and networks like the SME network the PM mentions. They are all gabfesting and feasting on slap-up buffet lunches but whether anything comes from them probably no one knows. But it all looks impressive and as a fallback position the slow deterioration in the Thailand economy can always be blamed on the overall global economy.

Not at all, the little puppet in the centre is about to explain to Uncle Jack,  in Chinese, that Uncle Too is dissatisfied with the order of kitchen knives that he recently received from Alibaba. Apparently, they won't hold an edge.

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has urged Alibaba Group CEO Jack Yun Ma to help develop e-commerce system for Thai SMEs so that they can sell their products online, Deputy Government Spokesman Major-General Werachon Sukondhapatipak said Tuesday.

 

Werachon said the billionaire paid courtesy call to Prayut when the prime minister attended the G20 summit in Hangzhou at 6:50 pm Monday local time.

Prayut to the billionaire that the Thai prime minister would be very happy if the Alibaba CEO shared his experience with Thai SMEs, according to Werachon.

The billionaire expressed his admiration that the Thai prime minister attached importance to the SMEs, Werachon added.

Members on this forum should hold respect for Jack Ma. About 10 years a go he was like many on here teaching English, not sure if he was a Tefler though, and now he is one of the richest men in the world.

Alibaba already lists Thai enterprises, so this looks like the little general is setting himself up for facilitation fees, a page from the Hillary Clinton pay to play book.

With his money you can buy just about anything. In the end his life ticket will be punched just like the rest of us. I wonder if Budda or God has a book keeper that can take a real look at this guys life. The first million is the easiest.
