Can I extend a medical visa? PLEASE HELP.

Featured Replies

My Thai wife was diagnosed with cancer in June, and was told that chemo and recovery would take at least 6 months. The treatments are severe and a bit dangerous. We have a daughter that must be cared for. I got a medical extension for 3 months after my first month using the usual methods (doctors records and note, passports, proof of marriage, etc), but I will need to extend it again for at least 2 more months. Neither of us are working currently and the treatments will get much worse each time.

Can I get another extension to the medical visa under the same reasons, as the doctor have stated in writting that she will need no less than 6 months of treatments? I cannot change my flight home again and there is no one else to care for my daughter or wife.

Get a certificate from the doctors stating reason for extension.

Go to immigration ( show respect) ask very politely and i think you will not have a problem.

If as you  say you already have got 1 extension, i think you will be ok.

Best of luck mate, take care of your wife and i hope she soon gets better.

Yes, you can obtain another extension using the same procedure as for the first.  Be sure to do it before expiration of the first extension.  I know people who are handicapped or have terminal conditions and never will be able to travel and have had numerous back-to-back medical extensions.  At some point, Immigration has gone out and checked up on them to be sure they're really not out-and-about and not "faking it" in order to stay in Thailand forever on medical extensions.

With thaiwife and daughter there are also other options to get extension, i quess

That would only be a 60 day extension to visit his wife and not sure immigration would grant one after the extension based upon his wife's medical condition.

The other be a one year extension if he could meet the financial requirements.

You should have no problem getting another medical extension. Even if you weren't eligible for a medical extension you qualify for a 60 day extension to visit your wife/child without any financial/work requirements. Best wishes.

Sympathy,mate and well wishes.
