BANGKOK: -- A 22-year-old youth was detained after he crashed his Toyota Yaris car into a security checkpoint on Phahonyothin road in Don Mueang area killing a traffic police officer on duty last night.

He was later charged with drink driving, in addition to causing death and reckless driving, after blood alcohol test showed the amount of alcohol exceeding permitted amount.

The driver, Tanapakit Supina, was slightly injured although his car was badly damaged.

The incident happened at about 11.30pm near Soi Phahonyothin 56 on Kilometre 22 of the highway.

Note: not the heir to a billion baht empire.

That's irrelevant. Anyone can catch the flu then go to Singapore to recuperate.

What the heck, he's only killed a traffic cop. A few hours community service should sort him out. Seems to work for other miscreants.:whistling:

Different story this time.

Detained by the police, pity his grandad aint got lots of money.

Pity he didn't or couldn't drive home, could have got the family driver to put his hand up while he sobered up and got daddy and family to undertake some intricate dance  moves while he packed his bags and headed  for swampy and the first flight to Singapore.

Silly boy! Didn't he know that all you have to say is "Do you know who my father is?" and you get off scot free.

The standard answe to that question should be "Do you?"

RIP to the officer. It must be horrible for his family.

The guy's in trouble for driving the wrong kind of car. A Yaris doesn't get you a long-stay vacation in Singapore before indictments are heard -- only hi-so cars like Ferraris and Benz's do that.

Yes - RIP to the officer......

One would think in this case, at least the deceased was not dragged for several hundred meters. Wonder if the punishment will reflect this?

Unfortunately the punishment for such a crime is so inconsistent... for some if they are rich or well connected they can even avoid a court hearing.

Bet unless this guy's family is loaded or well connected his bail will be set a sum he has no chance of raising...

What's the policemans life worth today ? Suppose can pay with money and not time . Will Thailand ever wake up and put a proper punishment for drunk driver manslaughter, for everyone ,no matter how rich ,black white or yellow

You pays ya money, you gets no jail time.

An even better answer to that silly question is:  "No I don't, but please let me know when you find out."

To rephrase Charles Dickens: A tale of two wallets..

Depends if you are talking about physical or mental development.

It would be interesting if the mainstream media ran this alongside news from the Red Bull story, just to see if there was any reaction.

mental development?

A 17 year old is more than capable of making a conscious decision. I'll be damned if a 22 year old can't.

think the problem was he was injured so was harder for him to some how leave the scene. wonder if he will have enough cash to compensate the cops family. maybe i am thinking like a thai but the widow and kids deserve some cash just as much as the killer needs some time in the clink.

RIP

Sit back and watch how they treat this guy compared to how they treated the Boss.

New to Thailand are you?

Maybe he'll be adopted by the Boss at Red Bull who'll send him to Singapore to give the other lunatic some driving lessons?

I think the other case mentioned must have been compensated in the many millions

other wise the family would have been all over the media for sure even for the not so

rich when payment is paid to all concerned, job done !!..
