September 10, 20169 yr Chiang Mai Immigration have told me that I need to leave TH by 8 December 2016 and reapply for my O-A visa in London again. I'm 63 now, retired (and legally married in the UK to my Thai same-sex partner, which isn't recognised in TH as a spouse). I'm unsure what I should have done differently and when. Can anyone help? Here's the history: (1) Obtained N-I O-A (multiple entry) long-stay visa in London, dated 13 October 2014, for entry before 12 October 2015. (2) Entered TH on 9 December 2014, entry stamp until 8 December 2015 (3) Re-entered TH on 17 September 2015, entry stamp until 15 September 2015 (4) Obtained Re-entry Permit on 23 September 2015, for entry up to 15 September 2016 (5) Re-entered TH on 9 December 2015, entry stamp until 8 December 2016 (6) Obtained Re-entry Permit on 22 December, for entry up to 8 December 2016 (7) Re-entered TH on 7 September 2016, entry stamp to 8 December 2016 QUESTION ONE: When should/could I have applied for a one-year extension to the O-A? QUESTION TWO: What is the time window before/after that date in which to apply? QUESTION THREE: Any suggestions as to how I might rescue the situation from this point?
September 10, 20169 yr You cannot renew your OA visa here in Thailand. You could apply for a one year extension of stay based upon retirement at immigration prior to December 8th. You need to show 800k baht in a Thai bank for 60 days or proof of 65k baht income by way of an income letter from the UK embassy or a combination of the 2 totaling 800k baht.
September 10, 20169 yr You appear to be here on illegal entry stamp and that has been compounded by illegal re-entry issue and new entry to that date. On entry (5) you should have been stamped until 15 September as your original visa had expired if your information in (1) is correct. This was compounded by later re-entry permit/entry. To be safe you must leave Thailand before September 15. Extension would require correcting previous stamps which may be an issue immigration is trying to avoid with them telling you to return to UK for a new visa.
September 11, 20169 yr Author Thanks for both your replies. Yes I had come to the realisation that the entry stamp at (5) was incorrect and should have been only to the legal end point of 15 September 2016 as set by my entry at (3). Thereafter subsequent re-entry Permit and next entry stamps simply repeated the mistakes. Otherwise I could have been applying for an extension right now. OK now I am clear what I need to do. Thanks again.
