I am arriving the 10th of Oct with "No VISA." I should be good for 30 days, then I will run to Savannakhet Multi-O and Lao visa on my retirement. My wife has set up a trip outside Thailand for 7 days starting the 17th of Nov. Should I wait do a border run to Laos, good for 15 days then do the Savannakhet Multi-O and Lao visa trip. Last time I did the Savannakhet Multi-O and Lao visa after 30 days went to Thai Immigration and was told I needed 60 days to apply for the extension. Your thoughts please-Thank You!!

I'm not really sure what you are trying to achieve.

  • If you enter without a visa you will get 30 days (Visa Exempt) on arrival, and can extend that by 30 days at immigration for 1,900 baht.
  • If you travel without a visa, and don't have an onward flight dated within 30 days, the airline might not let you fly.
  • If you get a Single Entry Tourist Visa (SETV) in your home country you'll get 60 days on entry which will cover you until Nov 17th.
  • You won't get a Multiple Entry Non 'O' from Savannakhet based on retirement, but you could get one based on marriage.
  • You can get a Single Entry Non 'O' from Laos based on retirement or marriage.
  • If you are planning to get a Non 'O' visa, and then apply for a 1 year extension of stay once you are back in Thailand, you only need to get a Single Entry Non 'O' which can be based on marriage or retirement.
  • When you enter with a non 'O' visa you'll be granted 90 days and can apply for a 1 year extension within the last 30 (maybe 45) days.
  • If applying for the extension based on cash in the bank you'll need 800K for 60 days if applying for an extension based on retirement, OR 400K for 2 months if applying based on marriage.

If you are married to a Thai you should be able to get a single entry non-o visa from a embassy or consulate without a problem before traveling to here.

I do not believe I have enough time to go get a Single Entry Tourist Visa (SETV).  Where do I go at Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK)  to extend  by 30 days at immigration for 1,900 baht? Then after our trip on the 17th of Nov. do a run to Savannakhet for the Non 'O' visa, and then apply for a 1 year extension. Thank You.

At most embassies and consulates it only takes few days to get a visa. Where are you at now?

I was suggesting you get a single entry non-o visa not a tourist visa. Then you could apply for the one year extension during the last 30 day of that entry.

You cannot get the 30 day extension at the airport. You have to apply at a immigration office.

Thanks UbonJoe, I went ahead and bit the bullet and sent off for a Non-Immigrant Visa Category “O” (Multiple entries) through the Thai Embassy Wash DC. I should have just enough time to get it before I travel from MCO-BKK on the 6th of Oct.

Hope to see you in Ubon shortly!

Just got my Non-Immigrant Visa Category “O” (Multiple entries) through the Thai Embassy Wash DC.  Do I have to report every 90 days or am I good to go as I please with Multiple entries for one year? Thank you for all your responses.

Warmest Regards,

Zama

each entry will give you 90 day permission to stay stamp, you will need to leave on or before the 90 day stamp date, so no need to report every 90 days.

You don't need to report.

  • 90 day reports are only for people, with permission to stay that is longer than 90 days, that stay in the country longer than 90 days.
  • You can leave as often as you want, but can only stay a maximum of 90 days each time you enter.
