2016 to be hottest year on record

 

 

July and August 2016 tied as the hottest months in modern times.The World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) warn that the consequences of warming at this rate could soon spell disaster. They say 2016 will be the hottest year since records began 137 years ago and are urging world leaders to implement the Paris (COP21) Agreement as soon as possible.

 

Urgent action needed

 

This week the WMO’s Claire Nullis demanded action at a conference in Geneva saying:

“The need to ratify, and even more importantly, to implement the Paris agreement is more urgent than ever before. Our planet is really sending distress signals, and we need to act, we need to cut greenhouse gas emissions dramatically and quickly.”

 

Record CO2 levels

 

Carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere are also at record highs. China and the US are the biggest carbon-emitters representing 38% of global emissions. Earlier this month, they agreed to ratify the Paris agreement. Though a very welcome move, this is only the first step. The COP21 agreement requires ratification from 55 countries representing at least 55 % of world emissions and that is before the implementation process even begins.

 

Coral bleaching

 

The effect of warming in the oceans is already reeking havoc with coral bleaching of unprecedented proportions. Some Climatologists say that the bleaching and extreme weather suggest climate change is advancing quicker than anticipated.

Remember the movie "Riddick"? The naysayers will be saying in years to come, it's a normal seasonal thing, happens every few thousand years, it's OK as long as you stay in the caves during the day time and don't come into contact with any sunlight!

this problem is almost to difficult to deal with. everything you can think of causes economic hurt and most economies are fragile as it is thanks to over manipulation. taxes on any carbon dioxide and methane emitting activities need to implemented as soon as possible and spent back on mitigating the problem. not going to happen. world cant agree on which side of the road to drive on let alone something as complicated as this. we may pay the price in our lifetime, or maybe it will be our kids.

It's cooled down to normal temperatures in the Netherlands now, but last week saw temperatures reaching 32C which is unknown for September. It was so hot one night that I was seriously considering getting up at 3.00am and checking into an airconditioned room for the rest of the night.

 

The apartment block I live in was built in 1985 and is well insulated. Unfortunately that helps to retain the heat which built up over several days and even now it's still 26C in here. A bit better than the 29C temp from last week, but still way too hot for me.

32 C ?? That's like 11 months of the year in Thailand . You get it for a couple of days and it's september so you know it won't last. We're sweating here 'till december or januari .

Yes I know that, but you have the benefit of airco in Thailand.

They're whistling, but the dog's out of range.

 

No government which matters is going to do anything significant about their CO2 emissions.

 

China, for example, has a legally binding agreement with the UN which lets it keep increasing its CO2 emissions until 2030, when they will be at least 30% higher than they are today. India expects emissions to almost double by the same date.

 

Other countries whose responses to the CO2 "crisis" have been judged as inadequate include Russia, Japan, Canada, Australia, Indonesia, South Korea, Turkey and Argentina.

 

So if you're one of those people who really think that CO2 is leading us towards catastrophe, it's time to start checking out real estate in Yakutsk.
