When I leave my school and my visa is cut, I plan to travel elsewhere in Thailand. I might not have time to do a visa run to Laos or Cambodia so wanted to find out: when I leave by Suvarnabhumi Airport where/how do I sort out my overstay fee? Is it at the final gate of passport control? Just I've never seen an "Overstay" queue there before. That said, apart from 1 day overstay exiting by Nong Khai border, I've never overstayed. How much time does it take?

You are aware that overstay puts you at risk of arrest/jail and being prevented from returning to Thailand it found prior to exit (and this is being checked more than ever from frequent reports of bar raids lately).  The overstay stamp itself has potential to cause issues for visits to other countries in the area (although this currently seems slight).

That said short overstay will be noted at exit immigration desk and you will be directed to payment location.  It should not normally take much time.

An overstay stamp in a passport always make immigration officer look your passport more in detail.

If you plans to come again to Thailand, you should take the time to stay legally in the country...
