BANGKOK: -- Young working people, filial child, elderly people and low income earners are promised by the government that they will have their own homes to live under a new 60-million baht state support project to help the people.

This was revealed by deputy prime minister Dr Somkid Jatusripitak yesterday.

Under the plan, the deputy prime minister said the Government Housing Bank will provide assistance for all Thai citizens to purchase their own homes.

He said under the plan the Government Housing Bank will join with the Treasury and the National Housing Authority to come up with four housing projects.

They are housing  projects for young working people, housing  for filial child where applicants for housing loans who have their parents living with them are given special provisions, housing for the elderly, and housing for low income citizens living along ‘klongs’ or canals and alongside railway tracks.

Meanwhile Government Housing Bank’s senior executive president Chatchai Sirilai revealed that the bank has set aside a budget of 50 – 60 billion baht for the proposed plan.

The first project to be launched will be the Homes for Filial Sons and Daughters which is expected to begin receiving applicants within the next two  months.

Special low interest loans will be provided to applicants with their parents living with them.

At present, the lowest interest being charged by the Government Housing Bank is 3.2%.
