Paul Laycock
Over the last month I have found a number of small (3") sized scorpions in my house. The colour varies between sandy to black. Should I be worried or are they harmless? if I was to get stung should I seek medical assistance, or is it know worse than a bee sting.
wayned
Over the past 18 years I have been stung numerous times. The sting was no worse than a bee sting but I guess that it all depends whether you are allergic to the venom. You only get stung once, unlike messing with a hornets nest where they chase you into the house. Now ,I once got bitten by one of those ugly centipedes. Although I didn't seek medical treatment that was absolutely the worse bite that I have ever had. The pain was extreme and it seemed like it lasted for hours no matter what I did. cornishcarlos
You can normally gauge what strength their venom is by the size of pincers. Relatively small pincers generally mean quicker acting, stronger venom. Large pincers are designed to hang on to their prey as the slower acting, weaker venom takes effect. Allergic reactions and Anaphylactic shock can be serious for some people though, so always seek medical advice if you are unsure.
