Phu Nam Ron Border Crossing

Recommended Posts

Greetings, I went to the Phu Nam Ron border crossing yesterday, there have been some changes. The price has increased to 950 Baht for Westerners, 850 for Asean members. This means it has gone from being a little busy at times back to completely deserted again. So there's no minivan escorting people over the border anymore, they now use a pickup to do the job.

I spoke to the tour operator who claims its coming from the Myanmar immigration and not them. It seemed like he was telling the truth. Nothing else has changed, the minivan service that goes to Kanchanaburi is still operating but when I spoke to the driver he said he only has a few customers. So how long that will last I don't know. All the Loatians and Vietnamese that started using the crossing now do not, I am not sure which one they now use.

The last reports we got for there was that you needed a visa for Myanmar to do the crossing. It seems things have changed again.

I would guess not many people are going to that crossing because they will be turned away unless they have a valid Thai visa for re-entry.

Hi, missed your post before posting that the crossing was open myself.

Story I heard for the Burmese closing the border for a while was that they were missing some of their cut from money collected on the Thai side. I guess we'll never know :)

I heard the same story.

I am thinking of doing an out-in at this border crossing in Kanjanaburi this month. I have an METV and would like to get another 60-day entry.

The latest reports I can find state

i) No Myanmar visa is required.

ii) It's an all-in price of 950 Baht for me as a British citizen (cheaper for ASEAN).

Can anyone provide any recent experiences to confirm this or otherwise?

I plan to go a couple of days before my current permission to stay expires so leaving a window for an alternative plan if required.

Interested also, it looks like YES from the most recent posts (base on other threads and dates) but I'd like to get confirmation if possible.
