Foreign man steals phone at Pattaya cafe

Featured Replies

A foreign man has been accused of taking a mobile phone from Espresso Love cafe in Pattaya, with CCTV footage said to show the alleged theft.

The cafe owner has filed a police report after an appeal for the phone's return was posted in a Pattaya Facebook group on Wednesday, 5 August. The incident was reported to have taken place at the cafe on 3 August.

Footage prompts appeal for phone's return

Facebook user Oanchalee Sadkhunthod shared the appeal, asking anyone who recognised the man to tell him to return the phone allegedly taken from Espresso Love cafe.

According to the post, the man entered the cafe, ordered a coffee and later paid for his drink before leaving as normal.

He then reportedly returned a short time afterwards while staff were talking to another customer. CCTV footage appears to show him picking up a mobile phone and leaving the premises.

The alleged theft was clearly captured on the cafe's security cameras, according to the account shared online.

Cafe owner reports matter to police

The cafe owner has since lodged a report with police. The footage has been circulated in the Pattaya Facebook group in the hope that someone can identify the man and help secure the return of the device.

I guess some nationalities are surprised to find a valuable item left unattended that they find it irresistible! Thailand is a very trusting country but still like to use CCTV!

Just waiting to find out where he’s from and then the racial onslaught will begin. Irrespective of race this sickens me why can’t people just leave other peoples belongings alone? I’ve had a phone stolen and nowadays with the amount of things or apps we store on them internet banking etc it’s a real balls ache resetting it all up on a new phone. In this case she should get it back but this thieving idiot needs a strong punishment and deporting.

People leave their phones lying around all the time.

This guy's on a slippery slope. Pretty soon he won't be able to meet the financial requirements.

No investigation?

Sometimes the elderly take things without malice. They are confused.

If he is a thief he should be prosecuted. If he is cognitively impaired, he should be sent to his home country healthcare system.

Return to whom?

Nowhere in this article is the alleged specific owner of the phone identified. Was it owned by the shop per se and not to a person?

No mention of attempting to call the phone number nor GPS its location. Or was the pone owner unavailable?

????

Did he also steal the suitcase, perhaps the day before? So what's next?

Should be able to login on another device and track the phone.

Most phones you can remotely lock and wipe the data from the phone so if all else fails that maybe an option.

He might have had no intention to steal anyone's phone.

He believed that he forgot his own phone on the counter, some phones look very similar.

He might have Alzheimer's disease.

What's in the suitcase?😉

Me. In regard to the thread--clear as can be that he stole the phone--the camera was angled perfectly. As we say in America, poor white trash.

I will wait until I have the whole story before handing him my judgment.

It was premeditated, not the dithering actions actions of a confused person. This was is a planned return visit to the cafe purely intent to steal the phone. As soon as the workers back was turned he nabbed the phone and immediately exited the cafe with all haste.

Probably a lot of phones. He knew what he was doing. You can see he waited until no one was watching so he could pick it up and rush out the door. Hope they find him and blacklist the scumbag.

Are you going to sentence him as well?

As previously mentioned, It was premeditated not the dithering actions actions of a confused person. The CCTV footage tells the whole story, nothing left to the imagination.

Maybe more mobile phones. He is an avid collector of mobile phones

I once “stole” a phone. I was at the local copy shop getting some documents printed. It’s a small shop where people shuffle around each other as they wait for a computer to come free or stuff to be printed.

My documents were done and so I started to pack up my stuff into my small rucksack, original documents, wallet after having paid, copy documents, motorbike keys, phone, all got dumped into my bag and off i went.

When I got home, twenty minutes later I hear a ringing sound for inside my bag and there was a phone that wasn’t mine.

I realised what I had done and took it back and it was relief all round for the owner of the shop whose phone it was.

Same iPhone, very similar case.

This case looks slightly different though in terms of clarity of intention

I have immediate dislike for this individual. A professional criminal who has no empathy for the victim. Does not care about the problems he has caused the victim with regards to replacing the phone. The phone itself has little retail value but what has value is the banking/financial information contained inside. The criminal knows this. Based on this the criminal should be fined, jailed and banned from Thailand for life. The theft was opportunist and premeditated.

Grand theft zimmer edition by the look of it 🤔
