AYUTTHAYA: -- Farmers in Ayutthaya have welcomed the plan of the Royal Irrigation Department to drain excess water from dams into their farmland.

Mr Wichien Puanglamchiak, honorary president of Thai Farmers Association, said on Tuesday that the farmland was already in low-lying area and has been affected by drought in the past two years.

Water to be drained into the farmland will fertilize the land, kill farm rats and plant aphid which have proliferated during the past two dry years although the land will be temporarily flooded and turned into monkey cheek, said Mr Wichien.
