Lucifers Beer Prices

Last time was on the piss at the Blues Factory and cost me nought. :D

Now I've said this a million times.... can get pissed at BF, but not the sort of place for that - you go there for the music and that alone is well worth the extra cost for drinks. If you don't like it, drink elsewhere then come in after your good and sloshed. Then again maybe thats not a good idea!!! :o:D

As some have said you pay your money and you take your choice, but the prices are shocking, especially the two tier system which is discrimination.

We had a celebration last week in a bar and twelve of us got through 6,000 baht of singha, blindin' 400 baht each and time for a boogie, went to blues factory and paid 360 baht for one round of three drinks, kind of took the edge off a good night.

360 baht for one round of three drinks
3 Singha's? If so yes thats correct, 120bht each.

There are price lists on nearly every table so its not like it was'nt made clear beforehand. :D

Not the point I was trying to make Dave,

I wasn't asking that they display the price. Shall I spell it out for you?

Went for good piss up, 12 blokes got steamed up and only paid 400 baht each for the privilage, went to walking street and I paid 360 baht for three beers. ok

EVERYBODY LAUGHING :D NOBODY LAUGHING :D Can you see what I was getting at now?........... :D

Sure, getting pissed up in the blues factory means that you need to bring more cash. :D

I tell you what Dave you're a laugh a minute, seeing as the prices don't bother you as much as me, you wont feel so bad about getting them in on the TV pissup will you.. :o

Na i'll let you get them in :D

I don't feel the need to justify the prices in there to be honest. It is'nt a beer bar. :D

But in Blues Factory Dave has to pay the band (and the annoying guy in the loo who tries to give you a shoulder massage when your unzipped)(although he has been missing when I've been there over the past year or so) and doesn't make money from bar fines. Same with the disco's. There will be a price difference.

Going back to the Sixties, when the Playboy Club in Park Lane (that's London, folks!) was in full swing as a casino, the drinks and meals were good and were cheap - relatively speaking. Because the big money was made at the gaming tables and the refreshment areas were a come-on for shilling new punters.

A few doors away the Dorchester was damned expensive, as were the Mirabelle and that Italiian place run by Mario and ??? (God, my memory is going - it was only forty years ago!)

Anyway my point - succinctly put - everyone has costs to cover and profit to make. The greater the entertainment, the greater the costs - and the percentage profit on investment can often be lower in the big premises than in an open-air beer bar.

Dual pricing for different genders is in my opinion very wrong, set a fair and reasonable price related to what you offer.

The question is what is being offered for which price is reasonable. Different venues have different prices and offer different 'extras' in their respective venues. Cost of a Singha beer, as example, is just under 25 Thb. A beer bar charges 60 thb (?) and makes 35 Thb on that bottle before other costs. Sales opportunity is small due to the size of the location (as I suggest here that normally beerbars are rather small and have a limited amount of seats). Clubs/discotheques etc charge maybe 120 Thb to 150 thb for the same bottle. Profit before costs is 95 to 125 Thb on that bottle. Sales opportunity should be higher in a venue like this as people see it as a destination and might stay longer. Also more seating etc. The question is if 60 to 90 Thb additional 'profit' on that same beer is waranting the additional entertainment which is offered. If the question is yes, so be it and people will come and pay. On the other hand if the answer is no, you are doomed as business operator.

In my opinion, at Tonys, for a 150 thb beer they do not offer enough value to justify that price. Unfortunately greed is more the basis for price setting than simple economics and profit/cost analysis.

What about the annoying clowns who hug you and make balloons into poodles for you? Or the plastic wip clean beds at the entrance? Or the little 3'8" lady who sells lollipops?

I love that place.....

but ONLY after several or more Singha's or whiskeys, then it all kind of makes sense in there :o

Saw a young lad, fairly well into his cups, go into Lucifers one night and order a beer. Bartender takes it out of the freezer (yeah, it was almost fully frozen), pops the cap, sets it down and tells the lad the price (120 baht ?).

The kid looks at him like he's got a 3rd head (must have been paying beer bar prices before staggering into the cave), says <deleted> that and walks away.

Bartender never even blinks an eye. Just puts the cap back on and sticks it back in the freezer.

Another "Cheap Charlie" is born... :o

I thought the whole point about this thread was duel pricing in disco's

Why should the lad pay more, in my eyes he did the right thing, if every farang did the same they would eventually get the message and we would all pay the same (if the beer bars can do it why cant the disco's)

They don't seam able to grasp the idea their profits would eventually be higher, as those who take offense at duel pricing would be more inclined to return there

You Sir seam to have more money than sense

JMO

c'mon now "they would eventually get the message and we would all pay the same" ??? they would more likely mark everyone up, farang and thai alike. witness the new airport being closer to pattaya. did the taxi rates drop?

if you take a thai and say 'you can have 500 baht now or, if you wait till tomorrow, you can have 5000 baht' they will take the 500 baht now. the fact that the government finds it an acceptable practice to charge foreigners more than locals (national park entry, etc.) gives the public sector and service industry the unwritten right to do the same.

The other bar next to Lucifers i think it is the Candy Shop or more commonly called Lucifers 2 also has the dual pricing policy.

They do however both have very good bands and probably the best selection of ladies in Pattaya.

All the gogo girls and bargirls head there after work looking for customers.

It is still dirt cheap regardless of the dual pricing and you can save the barfine by picking up there.

Here's an interesting case of "dual pricing".

I went into that European only dancers bar on Walking Street some time ago with my girlfriend...I can't remember its name, but they always have a girl dancing on the outside in a showcase.

My lady had to pay around 400 baht (consumable) to sit down whereas I could buy one drink at a time. I understand they are doing this to keep the ladies out.
