I have a friend who is an American married to a woman from Thailand.  They have no children and she recently had to have a hysterectomy.  She has a relative in Thailand who is pregnant but cannot keep the child.  My friend's wife is going to go visit and they want to put my friend's wife down as the mother on the birth certificate so they can bring the baby home to America asap.  Is this legal?  I have a bad feeling about them doing this.  Not just for legal reasons but he is 69 years old and she is 45 years old.

no it isn't legal, that is why you have an adoption process 

It is of course NOT legal.. and one day, Pandora's box will open.. i.e. non matching blood tests followed by DNA testing... and the child's documents / passports etc might all get invalidated..
