Sondhi has no right to take leave to attend his wife’s funeral

 

 

BANGKOK: -- Imprisoned former media mogul Sondhi Limthongkul is not entitled to ask for leave to attend the funeral of his wife who died over the weekend of cancer.

 

Corrections Department director-general Kobkiat Kasivivat on Monday clarified the regulations of taking leave from prison by inmates to attend the funeral of their loved ones.

 

To qualify for taking leave, a prisoner classified as outstanding must have served two-third of his/her prison term; a prisoner classified as very good performance must have served three-fourths of his/her jailterm; a prisoner classified as good performance must have served four-fifths of his/her prison term.

Absolutely loath Sondhi and everything he stands for , but really ...if someone's wife has just died a little compassion from officialdom would not be out of place.

what an absolutely stupid rule. how do you know when someone is going to die. only in Thailand. AGAIN !!

this is just a cruel and inhumane system - not only regarding the two Burmese scapegoats while the murderers are free and unharmed

How cruel can these people really be. No compassion at all .

OK folks, time to put away the tissues and plug in your failed memories:  

He should have thought about the impact on his life and family when he was illegally and negatively impacting the lives of millions in Bangkok, tens of thousands of stranded foreigners at Swampy, and unknown numbers of victims of his corruption which put him in prison in the first place.    

And remember, he was executing the first two activities while holding himself up as a beacon of light and paragon of virtue for his myopic sheep to follow in his hallowed footsteps.    

In every way, he should be held up as the poster boy for "This is what happens when you are cruel to your fellow citizens and guests of your country."

Sorry, no bleeding heart here.   Let him sit in his cell, read my post, and 'samati' on it.

Obviously not,how about the ordinary prisoners? They are not allowed "leave".

The woman is dead!!  She will never know who

was at her funeral.   This is all for Him to show

what a wonderful person he is; leave him in jail!

Having had personal (business) dealings with this moron, all I can say is "rot in prison until you also die you parasite".

 

Good that Karma is catching up with him in more ways than one!

 

I have seen a prisoner attend hospital under escort who didn't exactly look like he was at death's door, so I don't see why an exemption couldn't be made for Sondi, vile as he is.

Does this rule apply to all prisoners or just Sondhi?

Well.....he is an enemy of the junta.....

But I think many prisoners are often allowed leave for close relatives (wives/husbands mothers etc) funerals

You believe an incarcerated person should be allowed leave, from incarceration?

I asked a question I didn't state my belief. Did you not see the ? after the sentence ?

I can't speak for Thailand but prisoners being taken out under escort isn't exactly unheard of.

There have been reported instances of prisoners here getting special privileges depending on who they are of course.

Not if you are handcuffed between two officers and the madia ordered to stay at a distance. The prisoner should be there to attend a funeral not a press conference.

I wonder how many people missed funerals, weddings, medical treatment etc. when he shut down the airport. I'm sure he didn't lose too much sleep over that.

There were people much higher than him well involved with that airport closure, that cost this country billions. Since yingluck must pay compensation for the rice, so Suthep and apichet should pay for the closure. As the power to stop that was one word away from them. Compassionate leave is the right of prisoners throughout the world regardless of how much time they have served.

Im pretty sure most "rights" of prisoners are lost during the incarceration process.

Suthep is too corrupt and greedy to pay for anything. I remember him collecting cash during his 'rabble rowsing' time on the streets of Bangkok, supposedly for the benefit of poor farmers, but they got nothing and the money has disappeared, although Suthep and his very close supporters did have a big party shortly after.

I think we can guess at what "necessitated" the hospital visit.

 

But, IME, Thais don't do empathy, sympathy or compassion. Not without an incentive.

It's always refreshing to read that men like Sondhi made a positive impact on those they met.  

What would be the down side if he didn't go? She was not responsible for him being goal, and deserves the respect for her husband to attend.
