BANGKOK: -- INVESTIGATORS from Thung Song Hong Police Station in Bangkok yesterday summoned a former colleague of deceased land official Tawatchai Anukul to testify in a bid to find clues to the cause of his mysterious death.

Tawatchai, a suspect in the case of an illegal land-deed registration, died while in the custody of the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) on August 30. The autopsy found that his death stemmed from a ruptured liver, bleeding in the stomach due to blunt force trauma and suffocation - while the DSI had earlier claimed he hanged himself with a pair of socks.

Didn't the blessing helped? No extra consultation with the monk for guidance as to who or what was involved?

Looks like the most modern jail or holding rooms I've seen and yet this was no match for those with power above the law. A brave journalist should write about this regular event of prisoners dying in jail cells while in the protect of the police and powerful in Thailand.

Well unless this guy summoned was actually there on the day of the death I can't quite see how any insight he has would be any more useful than any insight I had. Utter farce and cover up, and a desperately poor one at that

If I were him, I'd be worried that at the meeting, someone at the DSI will swipe my DNA off something I touch, which will later miraculously turn up on the sock, the door handle or somewhere else incriminating...

Did the official also conveniently tell the DSI that the deceased had been in a distressed, confused state of mind recently and positively suicidal ?

DSI chief: Officials lied about Thawatchai’s condition

BANGKOK: -- Former Phang-nga land official Thawatchai Anukul might have been given proper treatment had officials at the detention facility at the Department of Special Investigation told the truth that he hanged himself, said DSI chief Pol Col Paisit Wongmuang on Monday.

However, he said the officials instead gave a false report saying that Thawatchai fainted.

On the night of August 29 when Thawatchai was found unconscious in his detention cell and eventually died, there were two officials guarding the cell, two officials on the downstairs and about ten other security guards.

Pol Col Paisit said had the officials strictly performed their duties, the victim would not have died. However, disciplinary actions have not been meted out against the officials concerned yet until the probes by other relevant panels are completed, he added.

He's still running with this obvious lie, is he, despite saying that the DSI were trying to decide whether any official would have had a motive to kill Tawatchai?

"Police summoned a former colleague of deceased land official Tawatchai Anukul to testify in a bid to find clues to the cause of his mysterious death"

or

"Police summoned a former colleague of deceased land official Tawatchai Anukul to testify in a bid to find clues on how to properly spin this mess"

Seems progress is being made.

From he hung himself with a pair of socks. To allegedly hung himself with a pair of socks and might have been some other causes and the guards lied from the start to say he fainted.

Is it possible to buy long socks in Thailand?

Poll; how many of you guys wear long socks in Thailand? ?

Not long to go.....this issue is almost old news unfortunately and I would imagine that the media have been advised.

They did and the victim did.

Seems like a win-win for DSI.

.He must be testing out the new government issue, flame resistant pants.

Doesn't look like there is anything inside that cell (handle, knob etc.) that would allow a prisoner to hang himself. In fact, most modern cells are designed to eliminate the possibility of an inmate harming themselves or others.

This saga will continue until they think the public have lost interest.  By the way, have they arrested that monk yet?
