Sorry can I get you to expand a bit. Where did you get your Visa? Was it in Bangkok or did you go to Vientiane?

Hmmm, I am Australian and the Australian embassy are <deleted> so I am not sure I can do what you did, but just in case, can you explain it a bit more. Did you get a friend to send you money via Western Union and then used that receipt to say it was your monthly income?

Oh. My wife earns about 7000 Baht a month, does that count towards the 40 000B?

And how is 40 000B in keeping with the concepts of sufficiency ecomony? (OK don't answer that, I was just having a dig at bureaucrats)

Oh, but please do answer the 1st part about my wife's income

Prince is talking about obtaining a non immigrant O visa - not an extension of stay. Money has never been a requirement to obtain an O visa - only when you wish to extend that visa on a yearly basis.

Your Embassy I believe issues something called a statutory document that fulfills the basic income requirement. You need to get that and have paperwork that supports it to show to immigration. Believe tax records will be accepted but not sure on others. At least you have reduced your wife requirements greatly in 30 minutes.

I believe the problem with your Embassy comes when people insist they confirm income and they say no can do - it is just a document that you fill out and they sign off they you say it is true and they can do that.

Wife income must be shown by tax payments (she may not be making them if private work) but if she is it will be counted. Last three months is what they want to see.

OK, this is the bit where I show I am quite stupid. The difference between an O and an extension of stay. i believe what I am after is an O. I have been married for a while, but have never applied before as I have never had the money in the bank. My father recently died (not that recent, about 2 years ago) and sometime in the next 1000 years my government should hand over to me the money he left me in his will. Therefore I would have the 400 000B that I thought I required. Almost just in time, but not so as my govt stinks. I had been living in Thailand on 30 day tourist visas and border runs plus at times I go back to Australia or other countries to work.

Sorry for the long explanation - but am i after a O visa? Does that mean I need the monthly income to be shown or ????

As I work for myself, then can I fill out that stat doc as my own employer and explain what I get per year. Which can then be backed up by tax return and bank statements and letters from other companies and the Army that employ me???

Thanks again

All you have ever needed for a non immigrant O visa is your marriage to a Thai. Up until the last few months the only document asked for was a marriage certificate copy. Recently that have tried to make sure the marriage was real and most local consulates also ask for a copy of her ID card and some ask for copy of her home register. But none ask for money. Currently you might even be able to obtain a multi entry one year non immigrant O from KL or Singapore but smaller consulates in Oz are almost sure to issue such a visa - which is multi entry and can cover you for almost 15 months. The only limitation of these visas is that only 90 day stay is allowed without an exit of the country.

Perhaps you were thinking about the requirements to change a tourist visa to a non immigrant visa at Immigration inside Thailand? That is done as a process of extension of stay so for that you have to show bank/income money as you would later for the extension of stay.

OK, I am starting to feel less stressed.

This Non Imm O visa do I get it inside Thailand or cross a border to get it?

When I get it, what does it give me? ie. How long can I stay for?

Being able to stay 90 days at a time is great.

I am stil confused about the other thing then. What is it and why do people get it? Will I eventually need it?

Am I right in thinking at the moment I don't need it and that I will be OK. I am married. We have the certificate and photos, etc.

You obtain from a Consulate outside of Thailand. When you return and use it to enter you receive a 90 day stay.

Now if you wanted to extend that stay on a yearly basis the next step would be to visit immigration with between 30 and 21 days remaining on that stay and request extension of stay as per our previous discussion.

The advantage is no more border runs; eligibility to apply for permeate residence and perhaps less stress.

Ha ha - as you can see forms and regulations and official sounding words stress me. So I am happy with that for the moment.

So I don't even need the 400 000B?

At first I will just get the Non Imm O as you mentioned but then maybe I will work towards being able to meet the requirements for the next thing you mentioned as I hope that puts me in a good position should the rules change again.

From my confused searching through this thread, it sounds Vientiane is a good place to go and that my wife should come. And I think I have seen a list of docs etc to take. Is that right?

Thanks so much for your time and patience with me.

Oh. I think I am starting to get it. Having to drag my wife across the border to stand in lines each 90 days will eventually get to be a pain in the bum. Hence people do the other thing. Is that right?

Got visa from Vientiane

Money is being sent to me by fellow director via Western Union but they use their personel details to send to me not my business details, and yes told them the was money from my business.

No questions asked...

OK. I am sure this info is already in here somewhere, so perhaps some one can point me in the right direction.

To get a Non Imm O visa I need to take my wife to Thai consulate / embassy somewhere (lets say Vientiane)

I need:

Marriage certificate

My passport

Her passport

Her ID card

Her house rego card thing that says where she lives

Pictures of our marriage?

Anything else or is this too much?

Sorry, but I want to get all this right and end up with a easily understandable list of what I need
