DSD to raise standards of skilled workers

BANGKOK, 6 September 2016 (NNT) - The Department of Skill Development (DSD) is determined to make 2016 the year of skilled labor development, hoping to raise the standards of Thai labor.

DSD Director-General Theerapol Khunmuang released an official announcement, saying the department is keen to improve skilled workers next year through a civil state policy framework. The DSD will work in a joint effort with the Ministry of Education and the private sector to respond to labor demand in various industries.

He said Thailand needs those with technological skills to work the country’s six industrial clusters and those with specific skills to work in special economic zones.

The DSD will also focus on promoting skills development for workers in small and medium enterprises especially in food, auto and tourism industries. At least 100 skill-testing centers will also be set up within next year.

Workers have successfully passed the tests will be awarded a star as a form of recognition for their skills. More than 12,000 workers are expected to undergo skill tests this year. To pave the way for Thailand to enter the 4.0 era, the DSD has adjusted daily wages in 55 occupations.

Stars are always great motivation.:passifier:

I used to award those to my nieces and nephews when they were back in kindergarten for a lovely painting or craft work.
