Reassurances on bomb plot ring hollow

The police again seem more concerned about the tourism cash cow than doing an efficient job

BANGKOK: -- It would be far easier to accept the assurances of Metropolitan Police Bureau chief Sanit Mahathaworn about public safety in Bangkok in the face of this week's bomb warnings if his force were not so cagey about its investigation - and not labouring under a reputation for corruption and ineptitude.

The police lieutenant general insists there is no need to panic amid reports that persons unknown have been plotting to detonate car bombs in and around the capital this month, including at Suvarnabhumi International Airport. Sanit has offered little in the way of details, but we do know that police, some in full Swat regalia, have been raiding buildings across the city. Sanit said "inspections" were carried out in Nong Chok, Min Buri and Lat Krabang on Tuesday morning at dormitories, apartments and parking garages as a "precaution" - and that the public can rest assured about safety.

These would have been the areas for checks, rather than Nana, when they wanted to provide security for the meetings of business leaders over a week ago.

Hollow Yes but we have to remember there'a certain class of Thai who expect everything they say to be believed without question and the current ' leadership ' have taken it to a new level where questioning is criticism and that can be against their law.

What else can they say? The police force is incompetent. As are the various intelligence services. All they can do is run around, show muscles and hope possible terrorists will be scared off. Anyone can organise a group of freaks or paid criminals to plant and ignite bombs. If people want to destabalise the Kingdom I fear now is a good time for them. And at least one party will be very interested in doing so.

Thailand is not the US or Germany that have a great intelligence apparatus to counter terrorism.

Time to round up the OAP gang again, after their afternoon nap of course. :jap:

Wow he hit the nail on the head give the man a cigar. Better pack your bags after this statement they will be chasing you with the L&M law shortly.

I have every confidence in the security forces and police.  After all, they dealt very efficiently with the last bombings in Bangkok and further South, didnt they?  :whistling:
