October 14, 20169 yr Urgent help please! Hello. I am a 53 years old Canadian , and I just arrived in Thailand 10 days ago. My plan is to marry my fiance of 5 years. We are living in her home town of Pak Chong. My goal is to also apply for a Marriage Visa. However, I just discovered I made a huge mistake. I entered Thailand on a Tourist Visa. I am now aware I should have entered on a 90 day O type Visa. What should I do now? Is there any way to marry my fiance with a Tourist Visa in my passport? I was planning on making this a permanent move to Thailand. Can I convert the Tourist Visa to a 90 day visa here in Thailand? Any help would be so much appreciated. Thank you in advance.
October 14, 20169 yr You can get married with any type of entry. You cannot get the non-o visa until your get married. As soon as you get married you can apply for a 60 day extension to visit her. You could change your visa to a non immigrant visa at Bangkok immigration but it would require 2 trips 15 days apart to get the visa entry. Your best choice will be make a trip to Vientiane or Savannakhet to get a single entry non-o visa if you intend on applying for a extension of stay at immigration.
October 14, 20169 yr Author Hello, Thank you for the reply. I understand that I can get married with a Tourist Visa. But, can I successfully apply for a Marriage Visa? With only a Tourist Visa as entry?
October 14, 20169 yr To get married legally you need to get a affirmation that you are free to marry from the Canadian embassy. This needs to be translated into Thai and the translation verified by MFA, Ministry of foreign affairs. A good translation company will take care of both. Congratulations.

You would have to show 400k baht in a Thai bank or proof of 40k baht income. After you have the visa entry you can apply for a one year extension of stay based upon marriage at immigration.
