BANGKOK:-- A video and still photography shows a young Thai soldier on duty for the procession that carried the body of His Majesty from Siriraj Hospital to the Grand Palace.

Clearly overcome by the heat of the late afternoon he is about to faint but manages to maintain his composure as a policeman comes to help him. The policeman offers smelling salts and asks a member of the public for a fan.

Together and in a spirit of mutual consideration they manage to do their duty for the man they loved as their King and Father.

In stills photography posted by a child called Preuksachart Chertchai the soldier is even seen turning down another soldier who comes to replace him. And he refuses a drink.

Preuksachart posted lovingly on Facebook: "I love my brother, this soldier. He showed a fantastic spirit waiting in the sun so long. He was fainting, someone offered to take his place but he refused. He just wanted to do his duty for our dear Father. I respect you. I truly respect you. You are a hero for me".

The soldier in the photos was a navy training student called Charawee Daengyai. The policeman who comes to his aid is Rachaket Pongsomboon attached to the Bang Bon police station.

The story was shared right across social media on Friday with grieving Thai people clearly moved by the poignant images of duty and respect that are at the heart of the nation.
