britmaveric
Russian Tourist hurt in paragliding accident on Jomtien beach. A warning to you now, that if you take part in extreme sports here in Thailand, please make sure you are fully aware of the risks involved and that you are fully insured for any injuries you may sustain from participation in such sports. In this case, from the Bangkok-Pattaya Hospital, medical staff admitted Mr. Artur Plaponov aged 32 from Russia who was badly hurt in a paragliding accident on Jomtien Beach in front of Soi 18. Details received by us are sketchy but it appears that the speed boat that was towing the parachute and Mr. Plaponov lost control and the victim collided with a light tower on the beach itself and he fell 30 feet to the ground. His injuries have not been fully examined and we received this story before the Police investigation began but we understand the boat company will fully cooperate with the Police and the victim. -Pattaya City News Wednesday 29th November 2006

sometime
How many people don’t understand that if you have an accident paragliding or on a jet ski, your travel insurance may not cover you, The Russian guy is in hospital for a week with leg and hip injuries, as he finally landed on the road he is very lucky that there was no traffic. his tour operater said he has to pay the full cost of his stay in hospital. Farma
I remember a similar thing happening in Patong a few years ago. A tourist died after hitting a coconut tree.
Rimmer
And the poor guy is probably radioactive as well! I hope he is not 'well connected' otherwise the whole beach might suddenly become radio active.

I misread the article, I thought it said "...but we understand the boat company will fully compensate the Police and the victim." BB
