5 Mil Passengers Arrive at Airports

Featured Replies

Cambodia Airports welcomed more than five million passengers and 53,000 flights in the first nine months of the year, representing an increase of 6.2 percent and 2.8 percent respectively compared to the same period last year, according to a report released by the company yesterday.

The Cambodia Airports report pointed out that cargo tonnage also increased by 21.3 percent in the first nine months to 35,125 tons due to the continued increase in regular and charter flights. Ho Vandy, secretary-general of the newly formed National Tourism Federation of Cambodia, said the increasing number of passengers and flights was a positive sign for both the private and public sectors.

“There is a benefit, both to the tourism sector and the national economy,” he said. According to the Cambodia Airports report, with the launch of direct flights from Japan on September 1, Phnom Penh International Airport received almost 262,000 passengers last month, which represented a 15.2 percent increase compared to last September.
