Deputy PM Somkid calls for confidence in Thai economy

BANGKOK, 21 October 2016 (NNT) - Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak has urged Thais to remain confident in the country’s economic fundamentals and has called for businesses to incorporate His Majesty the late King’s sufficiency economy philosophy.

Dr. Somkid assured that the government need not implement economic stimulus measures during this time, and called on the public to remain confident in the Thai economy, as the government will continue with its policies of infrastructure investment, mobilizing the Thailand 4.0 agenda, and supporting an innovation-driven economy.

He is also certain that foreign investment will flow back into Thailand.

Dr. Somkid added that government agencies will incorporate the sufficiency economy philosophy into its economic policies in order to realize its agenda of sustainable development.

"Dr. Somkid added that government agencies will incorporate the sufficiency economy philosophy into its economic policies in order to realize its agenda of sustainable development."

But foreign trips for the brass is obviously exempt from the incorporation.

What an absolute shocker to see that the more they bleat on about wanting to change and improve things the more things stay the same.....:coffee1:

Somkid  does what his told or else. The economy is in the worst shape ever. With there attitudes towards westerners I not see any fast recovery. But they have found a miracle cancer cure. Maybe Prayut team of jet setting spenders can give to others. But I dealt it.

Translation: Please have confidence in the Thai elites, so they can get richer at your expense and declining freedoms.

When the Chinese stop coming to Thailand in their droves, that will be add the slump. Only a matter of time...

Anyone have stats on money flowing.in or out of an junta ran country ?

"We give up on improving economic growth much beyond that of 2015."

Now back to those submarine purchases ....

Somkid knows what is needed for domestic and foreign investors to have confidence but too much of a coward to say it. He has worked for an elected government which have consistent positive GDP and record FDI. As deputy PM, he need to keep hammering the point that there will be an election next year. To the PM's credit, he said that but I have not heard this assurance from Somkid.

Or not.

" ... it seemed certain that a general election would take place no later than the first quarter of 2018."

I was so confident in the economy boosted by DP Somkids statement that I rushed down to the bank to take out a loan to boost said economy but sadly the bank manager nixed the idea saying that I was over extended like most Thais.  Seems the same government only a few days back stated that Thai households were overextended. Which is it Mr. Somkid.

Haven't you heard of supply side economics[ trickle down]?  It worked great in America and the UK. It took thirty years of it to get where we are now, so just give it some time.

He calls for it, so must it be. All knowing.

if you will call for it, it will come. keep borrowing to spend everyone. we can borrow our way out of this hole. we dont need the foreign companies to invest here to create employment. just borrow and spend to prop everything up. they wont come any way because there will be no election for at least another year and many people realize it will just be a pretend election to make people think the current 'government' has given power back to the masses. no need for stimulus spending as that does not work for very long but growth through debt surely will.

if these morons had the slightest interest in or knowledge of how to improve the economy, they could have started 2 1/2 years ago.

I don't use the term "morons" lightly... in fact I'm being far too generous... :coffee1:

The clown car rolls on and the Thai people are suffering.

Well, our other colored cloths will rot until next year....

What does he fear? Or what does the world fear, that can't be said?

Well, since I cannot DIRECTLY say how it is, let me put it this way...

The tragic period of that incident that-cannot-be-talked-about will have a huuuuge negative effect on Thailand's economy and our rebellious innovative Generation Y kids.....
