Entry to Laos for Thai wife and child

Featured Replies

Not sure this is the correct forum.  Im an Australian, going to Vientianne, Laos next week. My Thai wife and child (thai) wish to come with me. My wife has a thai passport. Please advise:

1. What documents are required for her and the child to enter Laos and if a Laos visa is required for them.

2. Any approximate costs associated with this.

Thanks for any help.

all she needs is to show her Thai ID card,at the crossing, she should be good to go

From memory, your wife just uses her passport, visa free entry, possibly a small "service fee" on the Lao side. Your child will need a border pass good for 3 days, 2 nights, cheap. Make sure you have proof with you of the child's relationship to you and your wife. You, of course, will need a Lao visa, cheaper if paid for in US$.

Sorry, I don't know. But if your son is 7 they should already have an ID card.

I think usually if both parents are there with proof of the relationship (which the birth certificate and tabien baan are) the officials will have no problem.

All that is needed is their birth certificate and a copy of the house book registry.

Just a ID card is not enough. A border pass has to be applied for and a fee paid for it.

why not get him a passport? costs only 1,000 baht or so and takes a week.

My daughter had her 2 passports ( US and Thai) from 18 months on
