Planning trip to Vientiane

Featured Replies

I'm planning a trip to Vientiane to get a visa and I was going to fly in but I'm not sure how to book the tickets. I went once some years ago and I remember there was a 1 day wait but I'm not sure about hours and how much time to expect in general. My concern is of course not getting the visa in time and missing the return flight. Does anyone know the hours they accept applications and have some ideas of how I could plan the return flight?  Thanks.

You will be able to submit the application before 11:30 on day 1 and collect the passport/visa from 13:30 on day 2. The airport is only about 20 mins from the Embassies Consular Service building.

Always remember to check also national holidays to avoid dissapointment. Passport collect time is next day afternoon but of cource if you apply friday, you need to spend weekend there.

Although the travel time is a bit longer, if you want to spend only one night in Vientiane,  you are probably better off flying to/from Udon Thani, and crossing the bridge at Nong Khai. When I last checked, the flights into Vientiane arrived too late for the visa application the same day, and left at a time when, at best, it would be a mad rush to make the return flight after collecting your visa. In contrast, there are early morning and evening flights through Udon.

Agree. I have just done it via BKK Airways.

PG943 from BKK arrives Vientiane 11:00 (if on time). Too late to make application that same day.

PG944 departs Vientiane for BKK 11:40. Too early to collect visa and leave same day.

Required a three night stay. This is only for BKK Airways!!

QV 0445 ( Lao airlines ) leave 06:00 PM so that is one option to go back.
