Volunteer visa and 3000TB -- is this legit?

Featured Replies

Hi All!

I wonder if you can shed some light on our volunteer visa issue.

When we applied for it back in July, we were told that needed re-stamp it every 3 months. Fair enough, that's what you need to do.

Now we're being told that there's a new law from October that requires you to pay extra 3,000TB each time you go to immigration every 3 months so that's an extra 9000TB that we need to pay on top of everything else we've paid already.

Is this really legit, or are we being taken advantage of? I think Thailand wouldn't have any volunteers if the cost of their visa extension was so high!

Would be so grateful for your answers.

Thank you!

You should only need to pay the standard 1900 baht fee for a extension. Who is charging you the extra 1100 baht?

Yes, exactly! Does this 1900TB fee apply to volunteer visa as well?

You will be getting a 90 day extensions to stay (it is not a visa) and will have to pay the 1900 baht fee every time you apply.

Unless the organization you are working with is able to get a stamp from a government authority you only get 90 day extensions. With the stamp you would get a one year extension.

All extensions of stay cost 1,900 baht. There is no new law, and anything over 1,900 is going to whoever is organizing the extensions for you and/or a corrupt Immigration Officer/Office.

Just this morning I heard from several usually VERY WELL informed people that INDEED there seems to be a new law / new rules coming into effect starting 1st of November and that things will get extremely complicated and expensive for many.

I may know more about that soon as I incidentally will meet some of those reliable local sources tomorrow morning. Maybe UBONJOE can investigate himself as he probably seems to have some insider knowledge

Often "well informed" people were not informed by a reliable source.

Until it is formally announced by immigration I consider them to be rumors.

The hint came from people close to immigration. We'll see soon
