Why is it that many online sellers will NOT ship to Thailand?? Do they have bad experiences? Do you?

Depends who it is,  never had much stuff sent but always been OK with UK GPO only a small problem with some carriers that don't cover my Thailand area.

Many, many online sellers are paranoid about sending to "iffy" locations like Thailand and it seems to be getting worse.

I think there have been problems with fraud in the past :(  Never had a problem with stuff going astray in the post (touch wood).

I'm increasingly using AliExpress over Ebay as they seem to have fewer issues with actually shipping stuff here without punitive postage costs (or even free), I've not found an Amazon seller who will contemplate Thailand as a destination.

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

For things I've wanted sent to me here, I've usually managed to find someone who will send. The big problem is sellers who want to use some global shipping service that want you to pre-pay some exorbitant customs duty. I only deal with people who ship via the post office without customs prepayment since 90% of the time things clear with no duty.

Mainly have things sent from US or UK. UK postage cost is obviously cheaper, but I've never had anything going missing. Even things I've bought from China have been problem free.

Amazon has refunded non collected duty. Pitney Bowes the company forced on you by ebay does not and is a scam.

Yes, Ebay is a big problem.

I also buy some clothes from Land's End. The US company started using a global shipping program that hiked the cost to more than the cost of the items bought. Switched to Land's End in UK. Cheaper shipping by post office, no prepayment of customs duty and everything so far has cleared customs with no charges.

I was trying to buy a new kindle from Amazon. Amazon in the UK wouldn't ship to Thailand but their parent company in America did, though only certain models. Fortunately, one of them that did ship was the one I wanted.

I had big problems with FedEx, who handle Amazon's worldwide shipping from America. My kindle arrived in Hong Kong in good time but from there went to:

China

Back to Hong Kong

To Taiwan

Back to Hong Kong

To China

To Korea

Back to Hong Kong

To China yet again before finally being sent on to Bangkok.

Amazon were very good and refunded all delivery charges yet. surprise, surprise, FedEx in Bangkok saw absolutely nothing wrong with it being bounced from Hong Kong to and from Taiwan and Korea.

Never specify courier such as Fedex or DHL (the absolute worst) as delivery option as you will almost certainly be scammed for duty of 60-100%. The paperwork for this duty they show you is from their agent, NOT from Thai Customs. It is a scam.

I worked for over 25 years in the air freight industry. What mokwit says couldn't be more true.

I buy online frequently and i have never found a seller that wouldn't ship to Thailand.

You obviously have not used Amazon.

For postal companies, beware of using "My UK Address", a postal company in London.

If your package does not fit their letterbox, they just ignore it, unless an employee is there when the package comes. I lost a package because of this, they were not interested in

doing anything about it.

On the other hand "My UK Mailbox" in Sheffield were good, though a bit expensive. But they do not give you a personal street address as they advertise, and won't accept letters from banks.

iHerb purportedly ships here but customs could get involved according to iHerb!

Lazada ships free but difficult to get refunds on poor quality products you may receive.

Great idea...I never thought of that...thanks so much for the valuable life hack...

I had a friend who tried to sell on ebay, based in Thailand.  Nearly once a month, his account on ebay was frozen and needed to be verified with some documentation...all because other sellers on ebay who  were also based in Thailand were scamming people...Thailand is a scammers  paradise...so many places do not ship here...from my experience,, about 30% of venders do not ship here, and even sellers here are held to higher standards because of theft from venders who collect the money and never send mechandise...

What's the "scam"? Is the no refund policy not spelled out on their website...did you read the Terms and Conditions of sale? If the policy is stated, then it's not a scam.

Wouldn't it be easier to buy some tablet in Thailand and then download and use the Kindle App? You would get 90% of the functionality and zero percent of the hassle.

OMG, a Kindle E-reader is very different from using an app on a tablet. You can read a Kindle e-reader in full sun, just like reading a book. You can't do that with a back-lit computer/tablet.

I avoid eBay and Amazon sellers that dont ship here but if I really need the item I use Shipito.

FedEx in Pattaya would not touch a Kindle Paperwhite I was to ship to USA because of the battery.

I bought Sonic toothbrush heads from China outfit via Ebay and no problems delivering in Thailand. Same with a martini shaker. both maybe took 20 days and very good price.

Ahhh  you never look or read from the Amazon 'Paper Light' screen late at night in hotel room with 15 watts of combined lighting.  Well worth  all the hassle - as I understood it Kindles (expensive)  are available in Thailand and the agent seeks some protection - They used to ship the very original Kindles direct.

Amazon is mixed some things available others not, sometimes same item  I Amazon shop will ship another not.

Not sure,  but sometimes they fussed about things with batteries?  for airline security?

Very few US suppliers accept a Visa card as payment if not issued in the US that limits supply options for some.

I've had a few kindles in the past (bought while in US) and they're ok for what they are, an eReader, but I wouldn't go out of my way to get my hands on one. Using the App on a tablet or the website/browser extension on any PC gets one 90% of the way there ?

I've owned Kindles in the past and am fully aware of their pluses and minuses...and who the heck wants to read in the full sun (especially in tropical Thailand)?

Full daylight then. Okay, if you know the difference then fine. Many people do not.

Ok  So bit lazy too ask google before - B2B  bookstores stock 4 models of Kindle in Thailand - yes more expensive not least because of duty & VAT .  But thats why at least Kindle would try and support their presumably sales agent - with an interest so see Thai language books in wide circulation.

Whilst falang not possibly want to read a Kindle in sun - the Thais will  love to - they don't because just not enough Kindles to read with yet for sure?

Visa refuse to send new cards to Thailand. I had been a trouble-free customer for nearly 30 years but they told me if I didn't provide an alternative address they would cancel my account. Fortunately I have family in Spain and now in the UK and I use their address. Thailand's reputation overseas stinks, but don't tell the natives as they'd never believe you.

Had 5 of last 6 items not arrive in Thailand from eBay.  Sellers deleted account from eBay after I bought and the others did not arrive. Fortunately eBay refunded all monies paid

You know Thais that like to stay in the sun and even read in the sun? Must be aliens in disguise! :shock1:

I have stopped buying stuff on ebay sending it here.

So far not 1 single item has arrived.

But I stopped some years ago so it might have changed, but I don't think so.

Hmm You need to qualify your question.  How many Thais do I know or even see that read a Kindle.   Then once we know that  we  can worry about the next sub group of their preference to being in the sun.

Maybe Kindle to consider their KIndle design for Thailand, if it had a camera, could use with Line,  have games and maybe  make cell call - and a bit smaller screen it would be more popular??    Oh and use in both the sun & shade

Problem solved.
