OA based on marraige may end

Featured Replies

Hi

I had a read of Sticks column today. He has heard from some sources that the OA Based on Marraige Visa may be coming to an end. Savan was also mentioned but no more info.

Has anybody heard the same or is it still hear say?

Need to do a run Feb and its the easiest and best option for me and others.

I think you are referring to the Multiple Entry Non Immigrant 'O' visa. It has been withdrawn from the Consulates in the UK. Any rumors beyond that are just speculation at the moment.

There is no such thing as a Non Immigrant O-A (long stay) visa based on marriage. What many get in Savannakhet is a multiple Non O visa. I have not heard anything to suggest it is going to end, but it could happen. I am sure some in authority consider it a loophole for getting around the rules that must be followed elsewhere. I hope the rumor is unfounded. It would result in the break up of a number of families (admittedly in shaky financial circumstances) that rely on the Svannakhet ME O to remain legally in Thailand.

I heard the same but that it will be dropped from the consulates from early next year but still available at the official Thai Embassies.

The OP makes reference to an unfounded rumour.
