Tourists flock into the Temple of the Emerald Buddha inside the Grand Palace yesterday, as this was the first day they were allowed to visit the Temple since the distribution of tickets was suspended on October 14, after HM the King passed away.

BANGKOK: -- WHEN Wat Phra Kaew – Temple of the Emerald Buddha – reopened its doors to tourists for the first time in weeks yesterday, most foreign visitors showed respect for Thai culture and an understanding of the mourning period for the beloved King Bhumibol.

Tourists appeared sombre compared to their usual behaviour in the Palace grounds.

Very few foreigners were seen taking selfies or engaging in casual banter.

“We do understand and respect the passing of the King and the people here ... Although we have not prepared any black clothes because we didn’t know we would have to, we do respect the passing of the monarch and this country,” Yoann Lecointre, a 40-year-old Frenchman, said.

The article seems almost disappointed that tourists behaved and were respectful, were they too expected to be carrying ' non-lethal ' weapons ?

Oh, they were "somber" not "taking selfies"! I see...

This may explain it ... "Tourists appeared sombre compared to their usual behaviour in the Palace grounds."  according to the  Nations Journalists the "usual behavior" must be disrespectful.

Little did I know or suspect ...... You learn something every Day

Most foreign visitors showed respect for Thai culture and an understanding of the mourning period for the beloved King Bhumibol.

It would have been nice if that read 'all' instead of most.

Very few foreigners were seen taking selfies or engaging in casual banter.

It would have been nice if that read 'no' instead of very few.

The world is really losing its way when people have to be told what they should already know and 'most' and 'very' few are acceptable.
