webfact
260 migrant workers arrested at direct-sale seminar in city hotel BANGKOK: -- Over 260 migrant workers, mostly Cambodians, were rounded up and charged after a combined force of labour officials, police and soldiers raided a hotel in Bangkok last night. All the migrant workers were attending a direct-selling seminar on food supplements hosted by a direct-sale company. All were later detained at Yannawa police station pending further questionings. But initial questioning of these migrant workers revealed some entered the country illegally, some have no work permits, and some work but with different job permits. trogers
And what would happen to the owner and organizer of the business? A fine at Bt100,000 x 260 would be appropriate.

Canceraid
If they are checking on seminars....they should check up all the Bangkok Meet-up Groups and also events hosted bY Bangkok Entrepreneurs Group like the mobile summit etc....do the speakers ta these evenst have the relevant permits and licenses or even necessary work-permits to give talks. They collect door fees...is this legal and are the necessary taxes paid. Most farangs attending these events are not even properly registered in terms of work-permits, visas etc.

nausea
A "combined force of labour officials, police and soldiers" - they were obviously targeting the organisation. First rule in Thailand - "keep a low profile". You get targeted you're in deep fecal matter, unless you're sqeaky clean, which I am of course, but then I'm as poor as a church mouse. Golden Triangle
When does ASEAN kick in ? Surely this will all be redundant then, and the rest of Asia comes here and shows them how to do it.
waldroj
One has to wonder what bait was used to attract so many of these people to this event.
