Reentry Permits

Featured Replies

I have a non-O visa. Can I get a multiple reentry permit at Suvarnabumi or Don Muang as I am departing? Thanks

If you have a non-o visa the re-entry permit would only  be for valid for the remainder of the 90 entry you have now.

If you actually have an extension of stay (it is not a visa) you applied for at a immigration office you can get a multiple re- entry permit at a airport.

Dear ubonjoe,

I have a similar question. Immigration officer stamped visa which is until 11 Jun 17 on my passport, please see the attachment (by the way I have a O-A multiple entry visa).

Can I apply a multiple re-entry permit until 11 Jun 17  at the airport?

If so, what are the other documents needed?

If not, what is this visa and it's usage?

If your OA visa is still valid you will not need a re-entry permit until after the enter before date on it to keep your last entry from it valid.

To get a re-entry permit you would only need a 4 X 6 cm photo to attach to the TM8 application form and copies of your passport photo page, visa, entry stamp and TM6 departure card.

Thank you for your reply. My OA multiple visa is valid until 2 Jan 17 which mean I can't reenter after 2 Jan 17. Hence, my question is can I apply multiple reentry permit until 11 Jun 17  at the airport based on the stamp which I have attached above if I travel after 2 Jan 2017?

You can get a multiple re-entry permit at either airport in Bangkok. Not sure about other airports that have a re-entry permit desks.

But remember if you do an entry on or before January 2nd you will get another one year entry.

It is important to bear in mind that re-entry permits can only be obtained at the airports after checking in for your flight, and that the office at Suvarnabhumi is closed between midnight and 05:00 each day. If relying on getting a re-entry permit there, therefore, you should avoid booking a flight which is scheduled to depart between 03:00 and 08:00.

One more variation on this question...  I have a one year Extension to stay based on retirement that runs until 15 Dec 2016. I also have a multiple re-entry permit that corresponds to that extension. Just this week I obtained a new 12 month extension to stay (retirement) that goes to 15 Dec 2017, but have not yet obtained a new re-entry permit to match this.  My question is - if I travel out/back in to Thailand between now and 15 Dec 2016 would the initial re-entry permit (to 15 Dec 2016) still be valid?

Thanks, RS

You need to get a new re-entry permit since you now have a new permit to stay date.

If you used the old one you would only be stamped in until the 15th of December.

Thanks.  Saved me from making a major mistake ...!

RS

Thank you guys for the advices/inputs given.

@ RS, I do not understand Why the re-entry permit is not included in your 2nd one year Extension to stay? What is the difference between the extension to stay and renewal of the visa (O-A visa in our cases) and how to obtain the extension to stay? Do my visa valid until 11 Jun 2017 (please be referred to my attachment above) be considered the extension to stay? Can you please enlighten me?

@ ubonjoe, Can you please advise my visa (please be referred to my attachment above) be used to apply for a single or multiple re-entry permit?

@ OJAS, noted with thanks.

A extension of stay just gives a permit to stay date. A re-entry permit is needed to keep that permit to stay valid.

A one year entry from your OA visa is not an extension.

As I wrote before you do not need a re-entry permit before you visa expires in January unless you are going to enter after that date. If you got a re-entry permit for the permit to stay you have now it would only keep the date in June of 2017 valid. If you do an entry on or before January 2nd you will get a new one year entry.

What do you mean by one year entry?

Is it a re-entry permit?

Can this one year entry be used to apply or converted to the re-entry permit?

I would appreciate if you could answer simply by yes or no.

You leave Thailand on January 1st. You enter Thailand on January 1st. Your visa (enter before January 2nd) is still valid. You get a permission to stay until December 31st.

There is no need for a re-entry permit when you can enter using a still valid visa. You only need a re-entry permit when your visa has expired (or will before your re-entry). The re-entry permit prevents your current permission to stay from being canceled when you leave the country and re-enter.

If I understand your question to which you want a "yes" or "no" answer:

Can this one year entry be used to apply or converted to the [for a] re-entry permit? Yes

Hope this clarifies.

It is the same as what you posted a picture of in post number 3.

If you want to leave and re-enter after the 2nd of January you will then you will need a re-entry permit to keep that entry valid.

An O-A Visa is valid for 1 year, but each entry allows another 1 year permission to stay.

You state your Visa is valid up to 2nd Jan 2017 (enter before date)

You last entered on 12th June 2016 and were given a one year permission to stay until 11th June 2017.

The multiple entry part of your Visa expires with your Visa (2nd Jan 2017)

You have been given permission to stay until 11th June 2017.

To travel between 2nd Jan and 11th June you can obtain a re-entry permit (single or multiple) which keeps your permission to stay valid.

If you leave and re-enter on 1st Jan you will be given another 1 year permission to stay until 31st Dec 2017.

Thank you guys for much clearer advices. Can I apply re-entry permit

(1) at any border immigration checkpoint and

(2) upon arrival (Let's say, arrival on 1st Jan 2017) because OJAS stated above that:

"It is important to bear in mind that re-entry permits can only be obtained at the airports after checking in for your flight"?

1. You can apply for the re-entry permit at the designated immigration office for where you living. That would be the office where you have been doing your 90 day reports.

2. You can only get re-entry permits at airports on departure from the country.

At Don Mueang the re-entry permit desk is after the departure immigration desks.

At Suv  there is a re-entry permit office in the departure hall and you must have your boarding pass for your flight out the country to apply for it.

The only border crossings where you can get a re-entry permit is Nong Khai,  Aranyaprathet and possibley Sadao.
