About 6 years ago I applied for a tourist visa for Thailand at the consulate in Birmingham UK. They gave me a visa. I didn't really look at it and came to Thailand to meet my gf.  Whilst I was in Thailand I applied for and got a job, applied for and got a work permit (submitting all the required documents including my passport with the visa) . Every year since then I have got a new work permit and a new visa extension. Last month I renewed my passport in the UK and when I got back I duly went to immigration to have the visa transferred to my new passport. Whilst doing this the officer made a point of asking why I had an non "O" visa and a work permit. The officer transferred the visa without any issues but now I am wondering if there is at some point going to be a problem.

Can any one enlighten me?

Thanks

Six years ago many consulates issued the non-O visa for visiting friends in Thailand. Presumably, your one-year extensions of stay have been and continue to be for the reason of employment and it does not matter now that you originally entered Thailand with a non-O visa.

In the past, I have had many work permits issued at various times all related to a Non O Visa I have had. Working is allowed on A Non B; Non O and an Immigrant Visa (Permanent Residence)
