cancelled....and then must reapply ?

Featured Replies

I would like to travel to the US for a week.  I am currently on a 1yr extension based on marriage which still has many months valid on the extension.  Here is what I think, please correct me if I am wrong:  If I fly out of BKK, then that extension is immediately canceled.  When I fly back into BKK, I would get 30 days on arrival.  Then I would have to go out of Thailand to apply for another Non-O VISA based on marriage.   is this correct ?            Or would I only have to go to immigration in my province and reapply for another 1yr extension based on marriage ?        Could anyone please advise me on the most proper way to go about that ?             Thank you in advance for any help.

Get a re-entry permit in the airport before you leave and your extension will stay alive.

You can buy a Re-Entry Permit (1,000 baht) from your immigration office (anytime) to at the airport (when you leave). When you return the IO will stamp you back in with the remainder of your existing permission to stay. Your extension of stay continues as if you never left.

As said you need to apply for a re-entry permit to keep your extension valid when you return after your trip. Single re-entry permit costs 1000 baht or multiple for 3800 baht.

You can get one at your local immigration office or at both airports in Bangkok.

A couple of days before you fly out of Thailand, visit your local Immi office and get a Re-entry permit. 1000 baht.

This will allow you to come back into Thailand using your existing valid Non O visa extension.

(providing you come back before this extension date expires)

If you fly out without getting a re-entry permit first, then your current valid Non O visa extension is immediately finished on the date you exit Thailand.

Get the Re-entry permit. It's easy.

Poster is on an extension of stay and without re-entry permit that will end on exit (which I am sure is what you mean).  There would not be any effect on a valid non O visa (visas are used for entry).

thank you everyone for this advice.  I read a thread back in April and it seems like the process should be pretty smooth as long as I have the 1000 baht and a photo.  Also I'm not sure but from reading that same thread I don't think it was confirmed if you need a boarding pass before you can get a reentry permit.  I will research further on the subject thank you again.

You definitely do need a boarding pass before you can obtain a re-entry permit at the airports.

Also, I don't know whether the April thread you refer to mentioned this, but the office at Suvarnabhumi is closed between midnight and 05.00 each day. Something you will need to bear in mind when booking your flight.
