my kids stay in thailand

Featured Replies

Hi

I am a British citizen and my wife is Thai we have been married for 6 years and my wife has been living in the UK for the last 5 years she now holds full UK residence  (right to remain).

We have 3 children together who hold British passports this winter my wife and the children would like to spend 2 months with family near Buri Ram we would fly around Christmas time and I would return to the UK 2 weeks later for work then fly out close to the end of their stay and we would all return together.

I know the children can stay for 30 days without a visa is it possible for us to apply for an extra 30 days giving them 60 days in total and is it possible to apply from the UK before we travel.

I read somewhere that because there mother is a Thai national they could stay for up to a year is their any truth in this it was from a random document found on the net

Thank you in advance for any information you can provide us with.

Kind regards

Thornton

why no Thai passports for the children

Without Thai passports/ID cards to present to immigration, they will surely be regarded as foreign kids... their mum Thai being immaterial. Tourist visas are good for 60 days.

tourist visa's for the children is the way to go if no Thai passports

Do your children have Thai citizenship as well?

I'll move this to the Thai Visa Forum, you will get more up to date advice there.

Your children are Thai nationals from birth. Have you registered their birth at the Embassy in London?

Info for birth registration is here on embassy website. http://www.thaiembassyuk.org.uk/?q=node/191

The can apply for a one year extension of a visa exempt entry for one year based upon being Thai nationals. Their UK birth certificates showing their mothers name and copies of her Thai ID card  and ID card would be needed.

Hi all thanks for the response we didn't register them as half thai due to possible subscription into the Thai army when they come of age not sure how they would get on being half farang!!!!

Although thats a long way of as the twins are 4 and the other is a newborn registering them at the Thai embassy London and getting them thai passports is maybe the way to go it would give them the freedom to come and go without worrying about visa's etc.

Any thoughts or Knowledge on the Army subscription if there not living in Thailand at  the time of subscription  can they be drafted from  the UK

Regards

Thor

The birth registration does not make them subject to the draft. Only being registered in a house book does that.

It is a long time until they are 21 years old. There might not even be a draft then.

I will study the link page you posted tonight as it looks like the best option i was thinking the same thing about the draft a lot can  change in 17 years.

Could i ask you what is the house book?

It is also called a tambien ban (สำเนาทะเบียนบ้าน) and is blue. Your wife is registered in one.
