Thailand reacts to Donald Trump’s presidential win

As Donald Trump closes in on the win in the 2016 U.S. presidential election, Bangkokians, both local and expat took to social media with their immediate reactions, jokes, tears and some surprisingly interesting thoughts too.

 

Here is a roundup of what we saw on Twitter and Facebook in the hour after news networks started calling the election and CNN announced that Clinton had already called Trump to concede the race. All this comes, of course, before any official U.S. government announcement of the winner.

Trump presidency makes us understand each other a bit better. For example now the rest of the world understands what 9/11 really means.

Those of us who lived with bombs, murders and mortar attacks in our capital and other major cities for over twenty years, largely funded by contributions solicited by the perpetrators in fundraising drives in the USA already understand what 9/11 really means!

If Trump puts 35% importtax on all thai products to the usa they will understand how it feels what they do themselves as well.

 

He should also let the Thai pay a 10foulded ticketprice to Disneyland or Ocean World...eye for an eye.

Americas got a new president who actually says what he thinks. I personally think he will be good for the country. Meanwhile, Thailand has got a military p.m. Who has the better deal,  the US  or Thailand?

Is that meant to be a trick question?  As I recall some were hopeful the general would be good for his country.  Others had issues with him right off the bat.  In Donald's case the jury is definitely still out.

From a twitter post in Thailand: “It’s not weird that U.S. citizens voted for Trump because deep down, everybody is selfish, discriminating, and afraid of everything that’s different from them.”

True Thai Tariffs are ridiculous.  They hurt the average Thai.

The U.S. government is based on a system of checks and balances. 

 

The reason for this, as given by the government and taught in the schools, is so no one party or person can get too powerful and take over the government.

 

The more accurate reason for checks and balances is so that the system that favors the rich and powerful never really changes. Only the names of the "drivers" behind the self programmed steering wheel changes.

 

In other words. Don't expect any major changes over the next 4 years. There will still be dissent, and certain groups will be targeted for discrimination. Enough to divert attention away from those who benefit most from the present system, but not enough to overturn the apple cart.

EU imposes import duties of up to 73.7% on cheap Chinese steel. 

 

You guys talking about Trump.  Maybe you should look at the UK EU and China trying to stop free trade?

For his policies to be lunatic I assume you mean every other country in the world is not doing the same thing.  In fact America is getting the short end of the stick as every other country slaps protective taxes and tariffs on their products.  If you did a little research you would find America needs a negotiator who is not on the take like the members of the Clinton Foundation.

That's great! We have Tata steal and don't need cheap quality anything, it will break/rust very fast and we like quality products since our labour is too expensive to rebuild it...We need german/japanese quality only, no american Ford's who fall apart after 3 years as well.

The U.S. goods and services trade deficit with the EU was $91 billion in 2014.

The U.S. trade deficit with China was $365.7 billion in 2015  is not self pity it is bad financial management to the nth degree.  If America does not watch it they are headed down the same path the UK took when the sun set on the Empire.

The british empire ended because nations realised they didn't have to be ruled by a foreign power.
