webfact
Thai trade with US may be affected BANGKOK: -- The Foreign Trade Department says Thailand's trade with the United States might be affected from trade barriers that are not tax related. This was voiced by Mr Boonyarit Kalayanamit, director-general of the Foreign Trade after Donald Trump won the US presidential election yesterday. He said a close eye must be kept on Mr Trump’s stated election campaign policies on trade to see if he keeps his promise. If he adheres to what he plans then this will have a significant impact on global trade which will of course also affect Thailand. The general consensus is that Mr Trumps will employ trade barrier policies that are not tax related such as health and safety requirements, he said. lovelomsak
It is not a case of may affect or will affect it is a case of shall effect. The trade playing field is about to get some leveling play in action.

waldroj
Do these "officials" talk amongst themselves (or, more importantly, do they listen to each other)??? Seems we often see two officials giving statements that are at odds with each other. Sort of like the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing !!! For example, just yesterday, we had DPM Jatusripitak telling us that he, "...believes Donald Trump's presidency will not much affect Thai economy...". https://is.gd/qBxBAS

BuaBS
Trump should tax Thai imports the same way the Thai tax US imports . Same for the nutters at the EU. Edited November 10, 2016 by BuaBS

Raising safety issues however stupid on manufactured products (only from abroad naturally) has the same effect. Japan does this on foreign produced cars, each one is individually inspected by customs and the costs for this is passed on to the customer, easy! rkidlad
The Thai government are not going to enjoy the same level of diplomacy as they did with Obama. Trump won't give two hoots about Thailand's human rights record, but he will care how trade is done. Trump is a man child. He won't tolerate any lip and he will cut off his nose to spite his face. Much like another leader I know. Only difference is Trump has a lot more clout and a lot less to lose with a country like Thailand. But at the the end of the day, I really don't think Trump will pay much attention to Thailand at all.
Stargeezr
Is Donald Trump like that new leader from Philippines ? I sure hope not, guess we will see if he turns out like Ronald Regan and surprises America and the world Geezer

3FingeredWillie
Trump should take a look at the treatment of Americans living in Thailand (and other nations) and reciprocate for foreigners from those nations in the US. Why should Thais have the same rights as Americans if Thailand has had xenophobic laws against US citizens here for so long. Thailand's racism can also be seen the double pricing which has gone on for decades. 100% tax on imports. Americans not being able to buy land despite living here for decades. I've reported every 90 days for about 15 years. This 90 day policy would be great for Thais in America on Greencards. It can create jobs for Americans. Also make foreigners becoming citizens take an oath which makes them publicly denounce their allegiances to not only foreign governments but also foreign entities and institutions. It's time for change.

3FingeredWillie
I haven't given up my US citizenship. Even Trump has business overseas. He's not a redneck.
