SETV not stamped on entry - can it still be used?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Couldn't find an answer to this elsewhere, apologies if I missed it.

After a long journey, looks like my girlfriend and I dropped the ball and didn't check both our SETV visas had been stamped on entry to Thailand. We now have one entry on an activated SETV, the other on an exemption, due to expire next week.

Is there any chance we can get that visa activated at the Chiang Mai (Promenada) immigration office at next week, granting another sixty days? Or will be be stuck with just another thirty days after extending the exemption?

Any thoughts or suggestions welcome - we were keen to stay for the full 90 days granted by an extended SETV.

Thanks very much!

If you were given a 30 day visa exempt entry instead of the allowed 60 days from your tourist visa you can go to an immigration office and they will fix the error. It would be changed to 60 days from the date you entered the country.

As said, you can get the error fixed at immigration and once it's sorted you will still be able to apply for an extension of stay.

If you entered and then left the country on your SETV, without a re-entry permit and received a 30 day visa exemption stamp when you returned, then its game over.....................;)

Stay on the ball. Immigration made a mistake and the OP is still in the country.

UbonJoe as always is the Main Man in these issues.

(UbonJoe appears to be active 24/7/365. Amazing. I am beginning to wonder if it is a team effort....)

I am in Thailand on a SE non imm visa from u.k valid for 90 days.

Can anyone advise me where the nearest imm border office (Cambodia if possible) i have to apply for a further stay of 90 days & what the cost might estimated be.

Im staying in Jomtien beach ,not married & 70yrs old male.

Thanks

You cannot get a 90 day extension at immigration. If you can meet the financial requirements you could apply for a one year extension of stay based upon retirement.

There is an immigration office in Jomtien.

You could get a single entry tourist visa that would allow a 60 day entry that can be extended for 30 days at a nearby embassy or consulate. You could also another single entry non-o visa if you can show the financial proof required for a an extension.

Ooops, just re-read and seen it was two different SETV's that were being talked about.

I had 3 coffees before replying to that as well.

Time to reassess stimulants...........................

Thank you to ubonjoe & sorry to the other reply as i mixed my query up with the original post.

Can ubonjoe tell me what will my financial requirement be? if its the 800,000 baht that is needed in a Thai bank that would rule me out as i dont have that amount in a bank or will it be my u.k bank balance as proof of some funds + my u.k state pension statement of about 28,000 baht per month.

i have spoken today to a visa company & they said i will have to go to Laos ,stay for 2 days to apply for an extension of stay for 60 days but they said their fee will be 15,000 baht to take care of the travel & new visa arrangements. I think that amount is a big expensive way to get the extra days i am seeking? but what do you think as i am quite new to all the visa's that are required to stay in thailand for my full 6 months.

Please advise.

Thank you

If you only plan on staying for 6 months applying for a one year extension would not be worth the effort.

Even getting the non-o visa would not be worth the effort and costs incurred.

It seems your best option will be to make a trip to Vientiane Laos for a single entry tourist visa that will allow you a total stay of 90 days.

As ubonjoe has said your best option would be a Single Entry Tourist Visa (SETV). They only cost 1,000 baht. You'll be granted 60 days when you enter using the SETV and you can extend that by 30 days at the Jomtien immigration office for 1,900 baht.

@ ray richards

Your best value and easy novice route is tour bus to savanakhet.

Can be done for 4,000bt from bangkok & about 5,000bt from pattaya inc lao visa fee, setv fee, buses (border bus and tour bus both ways inclusive) & hotel for one night. works well if choose a tour bus that turns up at mukdahan no later than 7:30am .

Plenty info on this on the forum including detailed guides and lao visa form and consulate visa application form download links so you all prepared and no hassle on the day .

using visa agents is waste of money on simple stuff like this, you best learning the system yourself as easier and their services are generally that poor if you not on the ball you will have more issues than doing it yourself anyway .

Thanks all for your helpful replies - much appreciated, good to know we should be able to fix things!

Would someone be kind enough to answer a follow up question - we're in Chiang Mai, and I'm wondering which part of the Promenada immigration office we should approach with our issue? I've only ever used the office for a simple visa extension before, and so have stood in line outside before taking a seat inside and waiting to be called etc.

Any suggestions as to a particular desk / section to try? I've always had a good experience at Promenada but one thing it does seem to lack is signage that explains who / which section deals with which queries. Unfortunately, our Thai is, ahem, rudimentary at best.

Thanks very much!

Most large immigration offices have a information desk. If they have one there that would be a good place to start.

They may though tell you to go to the other office to get the stamp corrected.

Thanks for all the great info gents, ubonjoe, elviajero, Buck Bee.
