November 13, 20169 yr Hi, I'm on a 30 day Extension of a single entry Tourist Visa and plan to start searching for a teaching position. Will it be problematic for a school to start processing the paperwork for a Non-Imm B Visa and Work Permit with my 30 day extension? If it's likely that issues could pop up then I'll head out on a visa run asap. Many thanks for the advice.
November 13, 20169 yr You can do it on an extension but you must have 15 days remaining on it to do a change to a non immigrant visa. You might want to look at the list of requirements to get a visa at immigration in Bangkok to see if you meet the requirements. change visa to non-b teaching docs.pdf If you go to a nearby embassy or consulate you will need a police clearance certificate to apply for a non-b.
November 13, 20169 yr It's unlikely that they will have the considerable amount of paper work done in time. It usually takes a couple of months, so you will have to go back and get another 3 month tourist visa. Then, the next time go back and get the NON IMM B, then the Krusapa letter and other paper work to get your work permit, next to immigration to convert your NON IMM B into a one year 'work visa'. If your school is clued up, the whole process will take 2 months, if not, about six months. Total cost to you will be about 20000 Baht, including a couple of trips to LAOS etc. Enjoy.
November 13, 20169 yr Author My plan was to find a job and apply for the Non-Imm in Penang or Lao. I have 2 criminal background checks...one dated sept. 2015...the other end of march 2016. Difficult and expensive to keep them all within 6 months. Currently only thinking about teaching for 6 months. Not interested in working on a Tourist Visa. Maybe Thailand isn't worth the effort for only a 6 month contract? Should I give up the idea of trying to sort out a position with only 30 days extension? Thank you for the help.... November 13, 20169 yr Hi, I'm actually applying for a Non-B visa as a teacher now. All that I need for it are a graduation certificate that has been verified by the embassy, put into Thai and certified by MOF, an academic transcript and a Thai Police Clearance that will take 2 weeks and cost 100B (plus a TOEIC score which must be 600 or more out of 990 unless you're from US, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia or NZ). The Admin Office of my school says it will need another 2 weeks to get all the paper work done after I've got all the documents ready. So I'm afraid 1 month wouldn't be enough for you to get everything done for your Non-B visa. Edited November 13, 20169 yr by Took
November 13, 20169 yr Author Thanks Took. Might start the job search and then do a visa run once I have a better idea of what I'm doing. I'm from a native English country...have my original diploma and transcripts. Do all provinces / jurisdictions require diploma to be embassy verified, translated, and certified by MOF?? I'm in Southern Thailand and would require a little time to get that all done in Bangkok in addition to a Tourist Visa run and waiting for school paperwork to be completed in order to do another visa run for Non-Imm. Read somewhere else on thaivisa recently that said Savannakhet doesn't require a criminal background check for Non-Imm Visa....maybe depends on the day you show up, not sure. November 14, 20169 yr Hi ouagadougou, It took me 2 days to get my graduation certificate verified by the embassy in BKK and another 4 days to have a translation centre put it into Thai and go to Ministry Of Foreign Affair to get the translation certified. They all cost me nearly 3,000B. For the Thai Police Clearance, I went to the headquarters of Royal Thai Police in Central BKK. To be honest I'm not sure if you don't have to submit a Police Clearance when you apply for a Non-B in Savannakhet.
November 15, 20169 yr Author Okay, thanks again Took. Looks like I'll head out on a visa run and start the daft process of sorting out a job once I return. Good luck with your school...hope it works out.
