BANGKOK: -- Several tens of thousands of people flocked to the Grand Palace on Sunday which marked the 30th day of the passing of HM the King to pay tribute to the late King at the Dusit Maha Prasart throne hall.

Metropolitan police commissioner Pol Lt-Gen Sanit Mahathavorn told FM 91 radio station that, normally during weekends, about 150,000 people arrive at Sanam Luang and the Grand Palace to pay tribute the late King.

However, on Saturday, only about 140,000 people showed up, including graduates and students of Thammasat University and their relatives who arrived to participate in the graduation ceremony.

To ensure safety, he said that all people who are to enter the Grand Palace will be subjected to body search but this will be done politely.

Regarding the Loy Krathong day on Monday, the commissioner stressed that no fireworks, fire crackers and sky lanterns would be allowed as well as entertainment activities to be held in public.
