Govt using e-commerce to sell Thai products on world market

BANGKOK, 14 November 2016 (NNT) – The government is using the e-commerce platform to connect Thai cooperatives to the rest of the world, with the aim of raising farmers’ incomes.

Lt Gen Sunsern Kaewkumnerd, the government spokesperson, said today the government is encouraging Thai farmers to form a community enterprise or a cooperative in order to increase their negotiating power. He said it would be easier for the government to fund groups than individuals.

Currently, there are 107 Co-op Distribution Centers (CDCs) nationwide and the number is likely to rise due to the demand by farmers, he said, adding that these centers generated 6.3 billion baht for the farmers between October 2015 and May 2016.

Furthermore, he said the government is helping farmers to sell their product online in accordance with the government’s Thailand 4.0 policy which seeks to make Thailand a digital economy.

Farm products including rice, fruit, and coffee are being sold on www.co-opclick.com.

E-commerce businesses in Thailand have been growing exponentially. In 2015 alone, the industry hauled in 2.2 trillion baht and the number is expected to surge year after year.

The government meanwhile, has opened a number of learning centers for entrepreneurs who wish to enter the e-commerce industry.

i would not buy anything off a thai website. i have been scammed and heard of so many people being scammed in thailand. i only buy and hand over cash when the goods are in my hands. i even got conned out of a deposit on a new car a couple years ago when they could not deliver it. wish i could put the name of the dealership on here.

Hypothetical question. If you had a website located outside of Thailand and promoted that website, how would you stand regarding the Thai defamation law?
Just an idea

Home delivered deep fried cockroaches, crickets and grasshoppers to the world....cool!

It initially sounds like a good idea. I tend to look for the drawbacks first, then if they seem only minor, I’d go with it.

I think that unfortunately, it could be open to scamming by either just not delivering the goods, or sub-standard goods.
Or, could quite possibly be the “middlemen” the government is trying to cut out of the loop might evolve into offering their services to the uneducated farmers by selling their product online and getting a cut by either charging the farmer a fee to sell online, and/or the middleman appearing to be a customer buying the rice that they they then pass on at a profit, via a much better promoted website/sales network.

I’d really, really, like to be wrong, but there are so many people out there with minds working overtime as to how they could gain using newer technology.

Thailand might itself see this a "global" but I wouldn't think other countries would necessarily.

OK, you're probably in Thailand anyway, but if you weren't then I couldn't see the reality of an extradition warrant being issued for something like that.
Wasn't there case case very recently concerning a Thai based human rights/ workers rights organisation that gave a newspaper  interview in Burma about some paractices in the Thai industry, so it was deemed to be outisde the court's justidication. I wait to be corrected on that particular case though.

My point was that if it was posted on a foreign website that could be accesssed within Thailand I wonder how that might be perceived.

It was just a suggestion, as you said you wish you could put the name of the dealership on here. It might be a way to publicise it another way, that was all.

ok, i had forgotten about commenting on loosing my deposit when i ordered a new car. if i put that on a website from my understanding it would still be seen as defamation. dont think it would do much good anyway. funny thing is i want to buy a new mitsubishi next year and i will go back to the same dealership on the north side of pattaya to see if they will use the same deposit i left the 3 years ago. if not i will go to the dealership on the south side of pattaya. at least i will get the satisfaction that they lost a sale.
