Suvannakhet - Multiple O visas still fine?

Featured Replies

Saw a topic here a month or two back which said that someone had been informed that the Thai Consulate in the UK wasn't going to issue Multiple entry Os anymore, and that this might be something that would be applied to other consulates/embassies as well.

Does Suvannakhet still offer Multiple entry Os?  And are the requirements still the same as they were last year etc (e.g. Don't have to show any money in the bank etc).

Savannakhet is an official consulate, not an honorary consulate. Thus, instructions that affect honorary consulates would not have a direct impact. There has been no indication that embassies and consulates would no longer issue multiple entry visas where they had in the past. However, Penang tightened the requirements for multiple entry Non O a few months ago, so that certainly could happen in Savannakhet. If it does, it will quickly become known here.

Be aware that Multi-Os, and other visas, may be rejected at the Poipet crossing by those who have spent significant time in Thailand.  See other threads on this.  Also, the Rayong crossing is now requesting tea-money to use Multi-Os at that crossing point.

Interesting.

So people with a Non-O multi-entry that are using it to stay here long term and do 90 day border runs are being refused entry at the Poipet crossing?

There have been a couple of recent reports to that effect. Also, a report from someone doing an in/out from Ranong that this will become true at all land borders from January 1st. Hopefully, we will get clarification sooner rather than later. This could be a real shock to some.

So far, just a "last time" warning to this Non-O Multi holder - told he must use the airports in the future - which is not the case:

On an SETV exit, I was told I would have to fly back in on my next SETV entry. I did not, and came back via Koh Kong without issue.

Someone on a Multi Non-O could simply return via BanLaem, if they were denied re-entry at Poipet.  At most, they could honestly say they were headed to Battambang (en route to coming back via Ban Laem).  Clearly, it would be easier to just use BanLaem to exit and re-enter in the first place, avoiding the "day trip" around Cambodia.

To answers the op's question in a word, yes. see the other thread for report.
