Booby Trap Kills Suspected Thief

Featured Replies

A man was killed in an explosion after triggering a booby trap while allegedly trying to steal batteries from a stone-milling company in Tbong Khmum province’s Tbong Khmum district on Sunday morning.   Korn Chanty, a 24-year-old rubber plantation worker from Takeo province’s Borey Chulasar district, died as a result of injuries inflicted by the explosion in Tbong Khmum district’s Chiro 2 commune, according to district police chief Major Long Sarin.

“He entered to steal batteries from a stone-milling company in Sre Siem village. He was then caught in a trap that the owner of the company used as protection from thieves who always stole his property,” he told Khmer Times yesterday. “It exploded immediately and he lost his left leg and got seriously wounded,” he said. “He died while being sent to hospital because so much blood was lost.”

Recently, according to the owner, thieves had stolen 150-volt truck batteries and other valuable things from the company, Maj. Sarin said, adding that the owner set up a booby trap to protect his property. A provincial police officer who asked not to be named told Khmer Times yesterday that the owner of the company had been summoned for questioning on Thursday regarding the explosion.

Well... he won't do that again

Setting such traps in the USA resulting in serious injury or death of the burglar would make the trap setter guilty of the crime of serious bodily injury or in this case 'manslaughter'. Life is still more important that batteries in most civilized countries.
