Opl
Ivanka prepares to run Trump’s Business by Meeting Japan’s Prime Minister Ivanka Trump — who Donald Trump has said will help run his businesses while he is president — appears, per a photo provided by the Japanese government, to have at least been present for part of Thursday’s meeting with Japan’s prime minister, Shinzo Abe. Other interesting photos here: every picture tells a story ... http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/2016/11/ivanka-preps-to-run-trumps-business-by-meeting-japans-pm.html https://www.buzzfeed.com/chrisgeidner/ivanka-trump-expected-to-run-fathers-business-also-met-with?utm_term=.fdVnWlN8E#.voLBxR4bw Conflict of interest ? https://twitter.com/jeneps/status/799441149920415744/photo/1?ref_src=twsrc^tfw Edited November 18, 2016 by Opl
Jingthing
Bizarre. The way he's involving his children like that is very third world. Considering the general consensus that trump is shockingly unprepared for the presidency, I reckon he needs all the help he can get though. What's Abe supposed to say or do? If he was thinking he'd like to join the street protests against trump, do you think he would tell us? Opl
Before this meeting, Mr. Abe had opted for flattery, praising the "extraordinary talents" of the real estate magnate. He offered a golf club to his host, who shares his passion for this sport. Ivanka's presence at the meeting was only revealed after the Japanese government released the pictures, thanks to a freeze-out of US journalists by the President-elect's team. But the pictures attracted attention in protocol-conscious Japan. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/people/ivanka-trump-meeting-donald-trump-japanese-prime-minister-shinzo-abe-a7424191.html "It's quite unusual to see a family member attending the first encounter between two leaders even if it's informal," said Yoshinobu Yamamoto, a professor of International Relations at the University of Niigata Prefecture, to AFP. Ivanka Trump could be named US ambassador to Japan, a position currently held by Caroline Kennedy, daughter of late former US President John F. Kennedy, according to rumors not sourced, relayed by a Japanese tabloid. "The possibility of Ivanka taking office is not null, but it is too early to say," Edited November 18, 2016 by Opl
NovaBlue05
I've seen Ivanka on several sit down interviews and she is quite poised. Good to see the PM make the visit so soon after election Edited November 18, 2016 by NovaBlue05
Jingthing
I would be very surprised if Ivanka is sent so far away. Shocked actually. I don't believe it but you never know with our new autocrat.
Credo
Personally, I don't think Ivanka should be sent to Japan. We need a seasoned, veteran diplomat for that post. She would be ideal for North Korea, though. She is used to dealing with a completely unpredictable person and little Kimmy would be so enamored, she could probably manipulate him into whatever her father wants him to do....or not do. She'd be loved and adored by the North Koreans, I think.
tonbridgebrit
Donald Trump knows that the Far East is of crucial importance to America, and Japan is America's biggest ally in the Far East. Making Ivanka Trump the US ambassodor to Japan sends out a strong signal to the Japanese, the President's own daughter will be keeping an eye on Japan. Trump's Far East policy will hopefully be far better than what Hillary Clinton would be doing. Hillary contemplated or wanted to carry out Obama's toxic "pivot to the Pacific". This was the creation of the poisonous Trans Pacific Partnership, with Japan anchoring the Far East onto the USA. The Trans Pacific Partnership is now in the dustbin of history, scrapped before it was put in place. Trump sending his daughter to Japan shows that, America will continue to regard Japan as important to America's Far East policy, even though America is not going to be creating a free-trade zone involving Asia and the USA. elgordo38
Japan's PM Abe meets Trump, says confident can build trust says it all. Just another arse kissing daisy chain. All the politicians of the world belong to this rotten club. It just sickens me when they come on to TV spouting praise for each other and the wonderful work they are doing. Just utter garbage. Prbkk
He seems to think running the country brings the same benefits as running a private corporation. Bringing in the airhead daughter for such a meeting: unbelievable.
Trouble
The article says she was there for part of the meeting. Maybe meet and greet, served the refreshments and left. Why make more out of this than it is. Doubt that the meeting got into policy issues and the like. Just a good opportunity for Abe and Trump to meet. Give it a rest.
