I use Dr. Padungkia at Chiang Mai Ram Hospital. He's quite thorough and has the training to do certain proceedures like abalation if you have atrial fib.

My experience with Dr. Padunkiat at Ram over the last 15 years has been a mixture of crappy medicine and mediocre medicine. I would suggest that you visit someone else besides this doctor... :o

Ajarn: Is the physician you speak of referred to as "Dr. Pat" could be "Dr. Pad" ?

I saw "Dr. Pat/Pad" two weeks ago and was underwhelmed to the extreme.

I went back on my own recipe of blood control medicines two years ago and obtained good results. Went to see him for the first time and was looking for yea or nay and why on my current mix. He seemed to be worried about liver function as I take Diazide, but nothing about my choice of blood control meds.

Since I have been on a self prescribed chlolesterol drug for a year to good effect , I decided on my own to go off it for a month and then back to the lab to see if there was a rebound to the previous 160.

Since my meds are all almost the lowest strengths available and my pressures are great, don't see much point in being underwhelmed again. He even wasn't available for a scheduled appointment, had to go back in the afternoon.

Fortunately, I have been on blood control meds most of my life so know something about the subject. Cettainly didn't feel any comfort level from my first visit to this guy.

Are there any others?

I desperately need to see a heart surgeon. I prefer Chiang Mai Ram. Any recommendations?

I have seen Dr Pattarapong at CM Ram and I was hugely satisfied with his advice and skill. I let him do an aniogram which despite indications to the contrary from Bumrunngrad cardiac folks turned out to be okay and no further treatment was needed. Dr Pattarapong is on the reference list for the Australian embassy and gives medical assessments for all Quantas pilots who live in the region.

Chiangmai: Thanks for your input. I still have difficulty with Thai physicians "bedside manner" but that is only a small part of it when it comes to heart treatment.

I will stick with him as my blood pressure problem is really no big deal at my age. On the other hand, how much interest can a monor blood pressure problem at my age be to a heart doctor who is involved with life threatening proceedures with really sick people.

On one occasion, the kind doctor gave me a medication for my atrial fib, and then didn't bother me with the news he had received showing that the drug had more folks dying after taking it than were being helped by it, he 'remembered' it when I came in with a heart attack... On another occasion, whe I had complaind to him about my leg, he, without ever bothering to even ask to inspect it, ordered me to take an expensive shot every day for a week.. After two more days, I went to Mcormicks and was told I had a very serious tissue infection, and that I might lose my leg... I didn't, thank God, but it took more than some medicine to get it fixed.

I'm sure Dr.Padungkiat is great sometimes, but not everytime, in my exprience... So, if you are new here or not very smart with docs, I would suggest a Dr. with a better record of care than I have seen

Glad to be of help - oddly enough it was Dr P's bed side manner that made me feel so comfortable. I agree that Thai physicians are often an odd bunch when it comes to communicating with farangs but this guy made me feel really comfortable. He's laid back, smiles and jokes appropriately but is clearly very professional - great communications skills that made me feel very much at ease.

I've ben a patient of Dr. PAT for the last 4 1/2 years at CM Ram. He's treated me sucessfully for various cardiac ailments, including several minor procedures, and cannot find fault with the man. Speaks excellent English, no communication problem, and is usually jovial and good natured.

The proof of the pudding is that I'M still around, alive kicking and bitching. :o

There is a smaller private hospital just a bit north of the Chang Puek Gate, it is Chang Puek Hospital....

There is a doctor there who I would highly recommend.... His short name is Dr. Pal [pronounced here as Dr. Pan]

He is an exceptional individual. He is the owner [with his family ] of the hospital.

I have sent people to see him for years as he has a full hospital staff of specialists. If a situation arises that he is unable to facilitate, he has no qualms of recommending you to another who can...

Give him a call 053-220-022 and ask for Dr. Pan's office.... discuss your situation with him and if you think you would like to see him.... then set an appointment.....English excellent...

If you do see him.... please post your feelings or opinions.

My boyfriend grew up in that neighborhood (Changphuak) and spoke highly of the owner, who is from India. He did my quickie physical exam and is quite charming. But by Western standards, for something like heart surgery, I have no idea.

I am currenly seeing a cardio specialist at Maharaj-Sripat clinic, Dr. Punemes Srisawang, but have no idea if he's as good as the guys at Chiang Mai Ram. I found an ortho surgeon at Maharaj that was better than my surgeon at CMRam, though.
