Question about a US citizen returning to Thailand after a year in Vietnam

Featured Replies

I'm a US citizen. I've been living in Thailand for six months now and would like to move to Vietnam for a year. At the end of that year I want return to Thailand for the purposes of retirement. Will I be able to return to Thailand directly from Vietnam, or will I be required to return to the States first to deal with visa requirements?

Moved to here.

There is no reason for you to have to return to the states to retire here.

If you will have proof of income or enough money in the bank you may be able to get a single entry non-o visa in Vietnam for being 50 or over and then apply for a one year extension of stay at immigration based upon retirement.

Someone in another thread claimed Vietnam was giving METV's to US citizens but has not offered a source of this info.  I speculate it's not factual.  Joe, any word on this??  I guess technically he did not say ME Tourist V's

That is for a visa to stay in Vietnam not Thailand.

Do not believe he wants a multi entry tourist visa if he intends to stay in Thailand by meeting retirement criteria.   Best would be single entry non immigrant O visa but even that can be obtained as conversion inside Thailand if required.
