NACC to recommend seizure of Sathit Rangkhasiri’s 714 million baht worth of ill-gotten wealth

 

 

BANGKOK: -- The National Anti-Corruption Commission has found former chief of the Revenue Department Mr Sathit Rangkhasiri of being unusually rich for having amassed 714 million baht in wealth.

 

NACC secretary-general Sansern Polchiak disclosed on Thursday that an investigating panel headed by Ms Supa Piyachitti had found out that the wealth amassed by Mr Sahit was kept under his name, the names of his family members, Sirikanchana company and outsiders.

 

Sansern said that the commission decided to submit its findings to the Office of the Attorney-General with a recommendation that the 714 million baht ill-gotten wealth should be confiscated and declared state property.

 

The NACC will also notify Mr Sathit’s immediate superior to fire or to remove him from government service for alleged corruption.

Satit Rungkasiri faces asset confiscation as Bt4.3-billion scam exposed

 

BANGKOK: -- A FORMER Revenue Department chief will face an indictment for alleged irregularities in connection with a Bt4.3-billion value-added tax (VAT) refund scam while associated assets worth over Bt700 million may be confiscated by the state.

The National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) concluded that Satit Rungkasiri was “unusually wealthy” while serving as the Revenue Department director-general during 2011-2013, according to NACC secretary-general Sansern Poljieak.

The agency also found that assets belonging to Satit, his spouse, children, a firm called Siri-karnjana Co and one unnamed person worth more than Bt700 million were ill-gotten in connection with the alleged tax-refund scam.

they aren't.  Thus, the potential for corruption.  I had a conversation with a friend about police back in his country.  He says most won't get involved with corruption as they'd lose their high paying job and incredibly generous retirement benefits.

Standard procedure here.  Create nominee companies and put your money there.  Somewhat hidden, somewhat.

I'd like to see a survey of how many people would like this stuff to continue..................the problem is that unless future elected governments are held to account and "policed" the trough will open again as usual and the abuse will continue right were it left off, I hope the new constitution and structures that will be in place are enough to put an end to it for a very long time, hopefully over the next 20 years or so the restraints can gradually be removed.

 

What I don't see and would like to see are severe penalties for those involved in state level corruption with a special set far reaching laws - specialised crime units - asset seizures and courts to deal with it.

If his family were wise years ago with land purchase in what are now prime sites there is no reason why some families would have accumulated wealth, I personally have friends in the west were they did just that and are now quite wealthy

he may also be affiliated to an unregulated financial entity such a temple where he attends for ......................worship

For sure more than 500 millions in assets which were quickly transferred to his daughter and refuse to have any inquiries on his assets or his brother...neither finding anything wrong with the construction deals given to his nephew...It is well knowns Army is not corrupted at all  in this country.

According to the article, he got caught.  This VAT refund scam has been going on for years.

Until the police are reformed, nothing will change when a new government is put in place.  Corruption as usual.

I know you seems to have some kind of bromance with him, but it was in the news, and strangely you're quite quick to jump on conclusions for other people but not him..and each time a journalist asked him about these he just turned upset..I am not sure if it was before or after he told the journalists should follow the line or he could just shoot them...

 

Didn't read anything about charges and jail time yet. They need to set examples of these scum bags.

 

I am sure there are countless millions that they have not found.

I have every confidence that due process has been adhered to, with all data revealed in this article amply demonstrated to be unimpeachable at every level. However, were I not 100% confident in respect to the aforementioned conditions, I would likely not presume to be so bold. I bow to your apparently superior 'inside scooping' capabilities.

I stay on the topic IMO, I just think quite amusing that he wants to get rid of corruption and graft and do not start in his own house...I am all for these crackdowns, as long as you show you REALLY want a cleaner country and not just find a way to be the only one to eat from the pie
