Never done a visa trip here. Can anyone advise? Price, how many days, etc. Just needing a basic single entry tourist visa to change to a Non B.

I was recommended the a travel agency who will do everything for you, their price is an additional $10 on top of the visa cost. Anyone know about visa agents there?

I used the visa-agent in "Lucky Lucky Motorcycle Shop" on the last two visits.  You will need either a flight-ticket out or proof of finances - I used by Bangkok Bank account.  The cost depends on how fast you want it.  I believe the price was $45 for 2-day and $55 for next-day, and my Visa has printed "40 USD" on it - so they make $5 or $15, and I assume some part of the $15 results in expedited processing at the consulate.

Thanks!

2-day meaning if I dropped off my documents Sunday I'd have the visa back Wednesday (Mon & Tues processing)?

Yes, that was my experience.   Not sure of their Sunday hours, but believe you could also drop it off at 8AM on Monday.

Update. I was denied. I've been in Thailand for 3 years, and in that time have 2 Tourist visa and 3 Non B visas. Always worked legally and done everything by the books. But according to the consulate here it's too much. Even with flight out AND bank info I was declined.

Unlucky. Did you use an agent or try to do it yourself?

Just gusssing - Non-Bs might look like intent to work again - even if you always did it legally before.  Or maybe they have changed their criteria to some unknown total time-limit.  I have over 1 year on my current PP, and no issues a couple weeks ago - but only Tourist Visas.

Assuming you used an agent, please let us know which agent failed to have the connections to get it done.   If the Consulate has seen your passport and denied the visa, HCMC and Laos are the next closest locales, with Laos being the most friendly.  What consulate-location were your other two Tourist Visas from?

After getting back home to Thailand, best to get a new passport, given the consulates only (currently) check the history therein.

I tried LMN and Lucky Lucky. Both told me they didn't even want to try because they knew I'd be turned down. They said I could attempt to go to the consulate myself and hope I got an interview to explain the situation, but I didn't want to bother with it. I'm going to visit the states in a couple weeks so I'll just apply for one at my local consulate there.

I have 1 tourist visa from Malaysia and 1 from Laos.

I do intend on working, but I've already left my old job providing the Non B so I needed to cancel it.

In that case, Laos would be the place to go for a nearly sure-thing, but if you are headed back to the States anyway, might as well follow your plan.  According to some theories, that will "look better" than another locally-obtained visa.

Be sure to have the 20K Baht and a return-ticket handy if you fly directly to Thailand - it's a long trip home if rejected at the airport.  I'd fly to Kuala Lumpur and train-in, if it were me, just for the peace of mind, whatever the odds.

Edit:  And thank you for replying back with the details of what happened.
